Just saying, we know the guy. We've been dealing with this every single season. And it's not because you're Auburn. We would say this to anyone.
He was supposed to be long gone after the 09 season. We all expected it. He stayed. Then the 2010 season, we said ok he wants one more year but he's definitely gone after this year. He stayed again. He ain't predictable. We've gone through entire seasons where it seemed 100% certainty that he was gone once the season ended, no doubt.
And here we are at the end of the 12 season and he's still here. Maybe this is the finally what he's waiting for. Maybe not.

Muschamp's done well, Fisher's doing better than Bowden was by the end.
So has Bob Stoops and Mark Richt.
If AU offers I think he takes it. Anybody who works professionally that is offered triple or double the salary , 99% are going to take it, it is very rare that you dont.

Probably right, I'm just saying based on our experience with him it wouldn't shock me on bit.
Do yall even want him?

By the way, since we're not going to have a real discussion on the subject, I'd like to revert to the equivalent Bama position to these auburn comments:
Kirby Smart will never leave Alabama, and no coach worth a damn would ever go to auburn, except Bill Oliver, who is a rare exception and we contend he suffered a mental breakdown that was never made public. Also, Kirby is adopting twin Asian sons, "Nick" and "Bear", and has asked Saban to be the godfather as long as both agree to keep their secret pact never to leave Tuscaloosa.

From what I've gathered, most are warming up to the idea of hiring Smart because they think it will anger Alabama fans.
If you replace Smart's name with the name of another top DC at a different school, they'd be spitting fire and jumping off bridges.

This is the guy Pat Dye wants. During the Saban show taped after the SEC title game, they featured Smart as the coach and I could tell Saban had an agenda when he kept saying that Smart was going to be a head coach somewhere soon. It was as if he knew something. I've stated this other places before all this hit. You never know. This could be a ploy. He may go to Auburn. He may go somewhere else. Hell, this may be a ploy to build him up for Saban leaving or retiring and wanting to hand the Alabama job to him.
Bazinga!

Not true, you gump. He is naming them "Shug" and "Bo", and it is actually three Yugoslavian kids and the third one is going to be named "Cammy-Cam".

what other job could Smart get that is better. If SABAN wasnt at bama no one would say anything. If he stays at bama he may know something about how much longer saban will be there and may want his shot at that job.

Because Stoops and Muschamp worked out so terrible for Oklahoma and Florida. Throw Fisher and Richt in there of the offensive side as well.

But half the Rant says he's the worst coach in the Conference?

I mean Smart was personally not my first few choices. If thats what they want to go with, then I will have to support my school. I would take him over Gus. He's just young.

I'm totally fine with Smart going to AU to be a head coach. I just want him to coach in the championship game.

quote:Yep and he's been a highly touted assistant - the next rising star to become a HC - for quite a while now. The vast majority of assistants are chomping at the bit for that HC job. Smart is different. He has bided his time. He knows his stature as one of the top assistants in the country and he is waiting for the perfect job.
Hes also really young too. Maybe it wasnt the right time. He is still pretty damn young.
Perhaps Auburn is that job. If so, best of luck to him. I'm just trying to let yall know that if he wanted millions of dollars and a HC job, he could've had that years ago. He wants more than that. He wants the perfect job for him.

I would add, if he takes it, it's pretty interesting he'd go from one job where he's micromanaged to another where he's micromanaged.
I've thought all along that he'd be appealing to Auburn given their current state of affairs. You can't control a coach who's had independent success, but you certainly can control a first year head coach or one who is the living embodiment of an emotional motorcycle wreck.
Everyone has a way to spin it. I'm not saying this is all true, but if he takes the Auburn job, I'll be a bit disappointed that he was willing to put up with their bullshite in its current state. I want better things for him than that. Similarly, I felt bad for Mike Shula when he walked into the situation he did at Alabama. Sometimes the immediate gratification ruins long term options.

I think I can agree there. If it is, then thats fine. I will support the guy.

I've said every year when the rumors about Smart leaving for job X arise, that I'm not sure I'd hire him as a head coach. Maybe after he proves himself at a smaller school. I love him as a DC and will hate to see him go when it does happen. AU would be a good job for him, but I don't know how he feels about the potential awkwardness it might create between him and his long-time boss.

I dont really know how to feel about this.
I would really want to hear from Smart about why he wants to be HC at his current schools biggest rival? Also, why Auburn and not Tennessee or Arkansas? I guess I would just want to know why?

Hopefully those issues in the AD will be dealt with in the near term, and the micromanagement will be phased out.
Bama did not rekindle their success until the good ole boy network was dealt with. We probably need to do the same.

Have said this all along. It took a coach who, even with a loss to ULM, could tell those people to frick off and shut up. I just don't think a first year head coach can do that. It isn't about Auburn, specifically.
For my friends who are Auburn fans, I see how frustrated they are. There are people who are there right now who genuinely think that what is good for them is good for Auburn, and that is decidedly not true.
