It's ridiculous anyways because Saban's first contract with Bama was for LESS money per year than he was making with Miami.

Montgomery Advertiser reports interview
...though they cite AL.COM so who knows.

Doesn't mean he'll take it and in my opinion he would just be interviewing for the AU job to get a raise or renegotiate his contract.
This is all just smoke and mirrors before Petrino is hired......Book it!

About to be processed? I bet there is going to be a ST coach position open after season.

He didn't have a committable offer.

If AU actually has or does hire him, I hope they give him full control and get the frick out of his way.
What makes you think the powers at be will do this for whoever they hire?

Because that's what they did for Chizik.

He would take it in a heartbeat. He has no allegiance to bama. They are merely his employer until a better opportunity comes along.

Like 99.999999999% of all Assistants. It's a business. The vast majority of Head Coaches would bail for more money / power too.

He also interviewed for the Ole Miss job, its the right way to handle the situation.

Please tell me you really don't think these coaches care about the schools they work for...

Come on, TnM, you don't have an inside track to Smart's mind. And if he were waiting for the first "better offer" to come along, he'd have left last year.
I don't think Kirby Smart is fiercely loyal to Alabama, but I think he knows he can wait for the right situation. Maybe he'll decide that's auburn.

quote:No but he may not really want the Auburn job and could be leveraging for a raise. He's done it before (with Vandy, I believe). Or maybe he has a track in mind and plans on being at Bama x more years before he leaves and he's just getting his feet wet and testing the waters and his value. He's done that before. He's had HC offers in previous off-seasons and hasn't left. Obviously he will one day. But who knows if this is the job he wants?

Or maybe he wants the job. I don't know. Neither do you. And neither does Tiger n Miami. That was my point.

It is just common sense. Kirby would absolutely jump at the offer. Reports are he interviewed very well yesterday. That would lead me to believe, amoung other things, he wants the AU job badly.

Well, wait and see. If AU offers, Kirby will probably have to think about it for all of 1.5 seconds. Maybe less.
