Walker if there is a good chance he will be here for two years. Otherwise go with Chavis, preferably with a guy he can apprentice to be a DC in the future.

can you put a definition on great please?

a great DC would have at least one defense rank in the top 5 in scoring D in 13 or 14 years, however long he was at tenn. for comparison purposes pelini coached 4 defenses as the sole DC, 3 of them were top 5 in scoring and the other was still superior to anything chavis has ever put together. even in pelini's one year as DC at nebraska he had a better D than anything chavis could manage with haynesworth and henderson on the same DL. anybody that thought pelini was overrated or not good enough is going to hate chavis

Chavis. At least he has had top 10 nationally ranked overall defenses IN THE SEC. Walker has NEVER had a defense ranked in the top 10, hell probably never been top 20 nationally. I don't see why everyone is so impressed with Walker.

Chavis. We need a good long term stability at the DC position.

Chavis.

Serious question: what the heck happened to UCLA run D this year? They gave up 200+ rushing to everyone with a pulse this year, and finished 91st in run D after being pretty good against the run in Walker's first two years. The offense was almost as bad in 2007 (99th in total O compared to 109th this year) so don't tell me it was just the offense. Anyone know?

Walker.

Not yet entirely sold on Chavis, but I think either would be good.

Tenuta first and foremost.

Chavis and Walker both have flaws but both are a tremendous upgrade.

Both a re an upgrade...but for me Chavis. Longterm stability and a proven guy. At least with him we don't have to go hire another DC in a few years and start this board all over again
