re: Pro Style Offense

One of the pros of running the spread is over half the high shools across the country run it, thus you get a decent batch of recruits to choose from because they are familiar with it.

The good thing about pro-style is that with the right players, it is practically impossible to stop and it prepares players for the next level.

You can run every play from derivations of the pro form and no one knows if it is a run or pass. If you have a great RB (we have plenty), play-action passes are wide open. If you have a great QB (I believe Mett is), and the defense is thinking pass, wide-open lanes are available for those great RB's.

But whatever the offense, you need the right players at QB, RB, FB, WR, TE & especially OL.

I think it is almost obvious in the direction Les Miles want's to head with the Offense. Just look at this years recruting class at the QB comitments we have. Neither one of them is a run / option type QB as when Lee and Jordan came in.

Didn't turn it over my arse, JR turned it over way less, go look at the stats. Revisionist history at its best.

And yes I wanna go more toward a pro style too, but I don't care so long as we have an identity and it works. But if u look at what type of recruits this state produces it wouldnt be bad at looking at going full spread option. I don't want that but the fact is this state doesn't produce many big time drop back qbs and most years not huge linemen either.

yeah this and what freek said too.

i don't understand why a place like LSU would want a leach/holgerson (although he's shown to tailor to his personnel more than leach)/riley/dodge etc type.

i guess some people just look at ppg and such rather than styles and how they benefit your players you have there. also the air raid offense lengthens the game and keeps the D on the field if it isn't too successful. we saw what that can do to a defense in 08 without the benefit of actually scoring pts.

i think miles will be at odds with anyone who isn't running a pro style offense. it's who he is, and i'm ok with it.

just hire a guy who can call plays, develop players, and manage a clock and i'll be pretty happy.

oregon does this. they dont run the pro-style. theres many ways to skin a cat. i just dont feel like pro-style maximizes your players. i like when coaches use scheme and misdirection on top of talent to gain the advantage. not just a "line it up, we have better players than you..." mentality.

i love when people talk about using play action to open passing lanes, like the spread has never done that. and wearing down the defense with ball control. and always having the ability to pound the rock. i feel like everyone on this board hates the spread offense b/c they think crowtons offense the last 2 years is the spread. dont hold the entire philosophy hostage b/c 1 guy royally fricked it up.

i prefer the spread. more versatility. if i had to pick the one i prefer, would be a UT with colt mccoy style. passing, QB run threat with good effective passing. i dont care about putting players in the pros. winning and big numbers will take care of that.
