I have three words for y'all:
1) Houston
2) Dale
3) Nutt

What about Bo Pelini?

Any big time OCs or DCs at SEC/ACC/Big XII schools I'm overlooking? I'm joking about the defensive coordinators at a Big XII school part, by the way.

Nutt actually expressed interest in Tulane but Tulane wisely said no thanks.

Like that one.

Like Pellini too, although TU probably won't. Tired of nice guys. I want a coach who is dickhead like Bowden was.

Pelini is a midwestern guy, but has experience in Louisiana. He'd be a big splash hire in the AAC.

He certainly knows how to coach lower-ranked or average recruits into good football players.

Tulane will pay what is needed to get the guy they want if they want him. They offered Rod and Leach around 2M so they will go that high if needed, if warranted

Meacham
Brohm
Babers
Briles
Riley

Their new athletic director apparently was mentored by the Big12 President and this is his first football coaching hire so expect him to lean on Bowlsby or where he is comfortable. Big 12 assistants or up and coming FCS head coaches.

I don't think any FBS head coach, even if they are in a lesser conference like the Sun Belt, would make that move. If they are any good, bigger jobs will open soon.

They need to look for a coordinator or a FCS head coach.

I don't think Pelini fits the mold at Tulane.

I disagree.

Satterfield at App State would be an astute hire. He's young and has shown the ability to win conference games at the G5 level. Tulane could offer him a MASSIVE raise - and if he pans out then he can go P5 for another one.

Or he can have another successful year and go straight to a P5 school. Tulane is high risk, not much reward job right now.

It's ALWAYS a gamble. If the tires come off of the truck at App State, then nobody will hire you since you "failed" in the Sun Belt.

The AAC West consists of:

SMU, who floundered just like Tulane.
Houston, who will enter as the favorite.
Memphis, who is losing a TON of key pieces and must reload.
Navy, who is losing a Heisman candidate.
Tulsa, who you nearly beat this past year with a bad HC.

If he's any good, he go 3-1 against our weak 2016 OOC schedule and then steal 4-6 conference games on top of that.

It's a hard choice. Do you take the intermediate raise and add a little risk, or hold out and pray that your program stays on course for a bigger one?

There's good reasons on both ends.

We're going to be spending "real money".

Tulane could probably afford Pelini, but I don't think he would pan out in NOLA. The new AD just had a fantastic press conference, and is in remarkably good graces with the fans. Pelini would divide support WAY too early in his tenure.

I expect Dannen to hire another rising star like himself. I also expect the hire to float around $1.5-1.8M/year after hearing his tone and this newfound attempt to actually win games.

I listened to the new AD on the radio and was impressed.

Pelini definitely would not be his cup of tea at all.
