Crowton/Mullen/Kelly

quote:

So Crowton, when he came back he had some rough edges to the spread and he started calling Chip Kelly on Sundays saying, "This came up and I didn't quite know what to do with it." And Chip always had an answer. So, when LSU came and picked up Crowton, Bellotti knew he'd been talking to Chip Kelly, so he went to get Chip Kelly.”

Sorry if Germans...but good story..

man i hate gary crowton

this article proves once and for all what i suspected. crowton has NO IDEA how to scheme/coach/run a spread option, yet he keeps trying to fricking do it.

*ETA: and i fricking am annoyed at phil knight for calling the spread option the "spread." the "spread" was around long before 2005 when UO lost to Utah. It was even in the SEC in the late 90s with Mumme's UK.

well this kind of thing is common

rich rod and meyer were the 2 pioneers of the spread option, and rich rod was there first

he basically taught northwestern's now dead former HC how to run it, and they have been running it since 2000 or so

the problem is crowton fricking sucks at learning it, and still has no idea what the frick to do from implementing it to coaching it to calling it

I know for a fact that Crowton suggested Chip Kelly to take over when he got the LSU job.

From what I understood Crowton is the one that suggested Kelly. Utah didn't even play Oregon in 05, they played them in 03 and scored 17 points. Meyer gets credit for inventing the spread? Crowton had to go learn the spread when he had been running it for years already? This sounds like a lot of bs being thrown out by someone who knows more about shoes than football.

Why don't Crowton give up on the spread and just go back to the passing game he used so successfully while at Tech. Thats what got him a gig in the NFL, running the spread sure didn't..

Crowton has to go...he will ruin Zach...

Crowton's record at Chicago..

1999 Bears Team offensive ranking 26th Crowton OC
2000 Bears Team offensive ranking 28th Crowton OC
2001 Bears Team offensive ranking 11th with John Schoop as OC
(not Crowton) 2001 the Bears went 13-3
