I just don't think Dan Hawkins sucking is any indication of whether Chris Petersen will succeed or not. The only thing those two have in common is that they both coached at Boise. Also, most of the time Boise played big programs, they did well. Georgia, VT, Oklahoma, Oregon, etc.

People act like there is some curse that makes BSU coaches fail when they leave which is just ridiculous.

Nothing against UW, I'm just sort of surprised he turned down the big jobs he did over the years just to end up at a 2nd tier Pac-12 school that's 2nd fiddle in its own city.

2nd tier Pac-12 school? 2nd tier to USC I guess, but not anybody else in the conference. UW is historically the 2nd best football school in the Pac-12.

Fantastic hire with Petersen. Sark bails on us and we upgrade. I like it

Historically - UW and UCLA would be tied for 2nd.

No way you're clear #2.

Tied with Pac 10 titles, major bowls - and you have only 1 more Rose Bowl berth over UCLA.

The prior coch got fired on the tarmac. Why would anyone go to USC? They are becoming the Oakland Raiders and Dallas Cowboys of college football.

Dan Hawkins,

Peterson arrived at Boise with Hawkins and ran the offense. Think Chiz/Gus.

This place never ceases to amaze me.

A lot of people laughing at USC in here but when has USC EVER hired a "sexy big name"? Ever? And yet someone how they are at least a top 5 a program all time. All time. Besides Bama, no program in the SEC comes close to their history. Maybe Tennessee, I guess, but not really.

Hiring the big name coach is not something they have ever done. And so far it's worked out better than 99% of other programs.

Hutt - you seem to be the only rational person in this thread right now.

I love how people from LSU laugh at USC about how the mighty have fallen. Same can be said of the Tigers this year.

I wonder if Petersen will do as well as his Boise State predecessor did after leaving to a BCS school?

Heck, Sark couldn't muster 7 wins in a season until this year and was beloved.

He was? There was a large section of the fan base calling for his head this year and never thought he was anything more than mediocre Seven Win Steve.

Playing up for one big game here in there doesn't mean much honestly. When in a BCS conference, particularly like the SEC or PAC-12, your team has to go almost all out every conference game, unlike with Boise State's games against BCS teams. They almost always happened to open or close a season.
