quote:

Jon Gruden has no interest in being the next head coach at Tennessee. This is not happening. No one is being contacted about potentially joining his staff. Move on Vol fans…

quote:

More than one coach has mentioned to us that he has heard “Jimbo Fisher is willing to listen.” – This one makes no sense to us here at FootballScoop, but it is a datapoint in so far as how odd it is that it is even being whispered. Why Jimbo would want to leave the FSU lifestyle to recruit on a plane more often than not is a head scratcher, but we’re sharing what we’re hearing.

quote:

“David Cutcliffe is on Currie’s list.” – Several coaches have shared with us that Currie plans to vet Cut. There are a lot of reasons why this is the hire UT should make. There also are those within the base that would be mildly disappointed with the hire should it happen. Cut is a heck of a football coach and knows how to win at UT.

“P.J. Fleck is on Currie’s list too.” – We’ve heard it from more than one source. Fleck, last year’s hottest name after going 13-0 in the regular season at Western Michigan, has a reasonable buyout at Minnesota. Fleck would rally the players and the fans, getting them to row in the same direction. Imagine the visual of Fleck rowing on the Tennessee River right up to Neyland… The question the fans will have is can Fleck out-coach Nick Saban in their annual matchup. Fleck’s response, “I went 13-0 at Western, give me a shot. Row the boat. Go Vols.”

“Is Leach in play for Tennessee?” – Several coaches have asked us that question. The sense is Leach is about to get a big contract, either at Wazzu or elsewhere. Leach has proven he can recruit, has won more than most thought possible at TTU & WSU, is a character and a football coach (somehow feels perfect for Tennessee) and is the type who could out-scheme /out-adjust many of the coaches in the SEC. So, is he on the list? We’ll all find out soon enough.
Scott Frost – Most coaches we’ve heard from believe is a better candidate at Florida & Nebraska.

Dan Mullen – Has all the job security in the world in Starkville. Why risk it here? Upside is a couple of million dollars & potentially an easier shot to play for a National Championship? Downside is significant. Know what $4.5 million buys in Starkville? – Answer: Anything you want & more.

Jeff Brohm – There is no question Jeff Brohm’s offense is one of the most exciting & effective in college football. His buyout is definitely manageable for Tennessee. The pause from coaches is, “I don’t know that he’s ready to lead that program. Have to recruit nationally. His staff would likely need some changes. Do you trust him to out coach Nick, Kirby, Muschamp and whoever Florida hires each year?” Certainly there are other candidates; but the chatter within the profession thus far seems to have focused on these men. As always, will update The Scoop as more is clear.

He’d be a bad hire anyway.

I’m so confused as to why people think he’d be good.

That's a great point. talk about a trio of douches.

I just think this starts and ends with Gruden's current financial situation. who in their right mind mind would leave a gig like his?

Agreed.

Really? Scott Roussell, the owner of FB scoop and author of the article is a Baton Rouge native/resident. Was he not paying attention the last two years when ALL we heard was Jimbo to LSU? Fisher has showed no qualms about trying to leverage other openings to get what he wants at FSU. After two years, LSU might not be dumb enough to fall for it again. Now on to "Jimbo to Tenn...or A&M...or....."

quote:

“P.J. Fleck is on Currie’s list too.”

If he is, it's because PJ found the list and wrote his name on it. Or UT's AD is tone deaf to the fanbase. I guess I could be wrong, but I find it a bit hard to believe that Tennessee would be interested in hiring a guy who is best known for cheesy mantras/platitudes and success at a Michigan mid-major. They just fired that guy!!!

quote:

Dan Mullen – Has all the job security in the world in Starkville. Why risk it here? Upside is a couple of million dollars & potentially an easier shot to play for a National Championship? Downside is significant. Know what $4.5 million buys in Starkville? – Answer: Anything you want & more.

He can still go buy whatever he wants in Starkville with the money Tennessee would pay him. The only thing he can't buy is a shot at a National Title...which is something he would have a MUCH better chance of achieving at Tenn.

quote:

“David Cutcliffe is on Currie’s list.”

As what? A courtesy to a legacy? If he is hired Tenn. fans might line up to jump off the top of Neyland Stadium. The question would be "what the frick did we fire Fullmer for if we are just going hire his OC 10 years too late?

I hope Cutcliffe is the guy!!!!

Lol, footballscoop has consistently posted incorrect information, a day or 2 late.

A poster on another board created a fake John Currie Twitter account after the Georgia game, that Butch Jones had relieved of his duties, and footballscoop posted a 2 page article a day later as if it had actually happened. They took down the article, but it was hilarious.

They get trolled with fake information constantly, and instead of vetting the source or even getting a confirmation from a credible source or even second source of any kind, they comment on it as if it is fact.

They might as well be an SECR poster, same level of journalistic credibility.

Jimbo to A&M makes more sense than UT.

Why would he want to get back into coaching? Isn't he like ESPN's highest paid on-air personality?

He has a sweet gig that I don't think anyone would give up to go coach again.

ESPN not renewing his contract at that price, for the 10,000th time. Jesus guys, come up with a better response.

No shite.

Why anybody would think he would leave the cushiest job in the world for a rebuilding program is just ridiculous to me.

When he hasn't coached for close to 10 years, hasn't helped coach a college program for close to 30 years and has never had to deal with recruiting and the management of a college program? I'm not saying he's never going to coach college football but he's never going to coach college football.
