Would be a good defensive coordn. We can thank him for the opportunity to get to the BCS NCG in 2007.

Iowa State is probably the worst program in the nation. He did well there, considering....

Kansas has way more resources than ISU.

Incorrect. They have surprisingly good facilities and fan support. Just a huge uphill battle in recruiting against Iowa, Nebraska, etc.

No one reading this will probably ever go to a game there but it's a great time. They have one of the best tailgating scenes in the country. No joke.

Statement from the ISU AD: "Rhoads? Where we're going, we don't need Rhoads."

ISU has never won 10 games in a season. Ever. Tough job.

I would put Rhodes in the same boat with Vandy's coach. Both are top shelf DCs, but neither had the chops to get the job done as head coaches in tough places to win. Vandy and ISU are probably among the top 10 toughest jobs to win because of the limitations and consistently tough competition.

I would take either of these guys as a DC.

ISU has the 3rd largest stadium in the Big 12 and just invested $80m renovating it just this past summer. They completely redid their facilities in 2012 that includes a new weight room, indoor facility, and football complex. They paid Rhoads $2.2m

Kansas has a complete dump of a stadium that has no football complex. Whether they have more resources, they don't give 2 fricks about football. Their head coach makes less than the head coach at Tulane, Rice, ULaLa, etc.

The reason he lasted so long there is due to Tom Herman.

ISU has a really loyal fanbase all around. I've heard Ames is very nice as well. It's a tough place to recruit to but the right coach could churn out 7-8 win seasons there IMO

yeah, it's a difficult hire because the upside is so limited that you will never be the hot name. It really reduces interest from the up and comers. I'm really surprised Chizik ever took that gig.

But if they can find a lifer type, they could be a KSU level program. They support better than KSU has pre Purple Wizard (and during his mid-career siesta). Though I'm not sure that Snyder, like Beamer, hasn't raised the level of support of the school forever
