Nah. The backup had a couple years left after Reggie and may have been worse the next year. He looked good in the Bowl game after the 06 season though (Ball was suspended). He transferred to La Tech when Paul Johnson was hired.

There was another black dude, a lot bigger than Reggie I think, that Reggie took the job from as a freshman. I forget his name, but I think they moved him to WR. He wasn't really good at either position IIRC

Reggie Ball is the only QB I ever saw intentionally ground the ball near the end of the game to stop the clock. It was 4th down.
