You don't put candidates like Gilbert through an interview with no intention of hiring. This is for show.

He's really good with QBs supposedly. Runs a spread but he's one of the spread coaches that understands you need power run schemes like Urban Meyer use to run in SEC with success. Think of it as an offense that has all the strengths of both a spread and pro style offense. It's a necessity if you're going to run a spread in the SEC you have to dominate up front and make the defense respect the run. Once you do that all the pieces fall into place with the spread attack. He uses the spread to attack with the run game too which is how it should be done. I think he'd be a very good hire, IMO.
I'm not sure he'd have immediate success here. It would depend on how fast Brennan progressed in 1 year or Narcisse. I still think regardless who we have as OC next year it's going to be a painful season. I think we'll be a really good football team in 2 years.

Me too. I'm liking what I'm reading on Gilbert.

It's an upgrade on Amazon Prime. Extra $3.99 per month.

Give me an hour or two and ill update again.

Not necessarily in this case. I believe they'd interview for the simple fact they don't want to run into another Canada situation. Get a feel on him, hear what O promises the coach like no meddling, etc. Need to see if that chemistry is going to work in an interview. You can learn a lot from them. It would not surprise me if it's for show though. I still think Alleva is just protecting O and acting like he's searching to please the board then come right back and say the right man is E.

Yessssssssss
In the voice of mike mayock "he is a box checker"
- power spread (check)
- cheap (check)
- qb coach (check)
- ties to recruiting base (check)
- no baggage (check)
Do it

Probably.
Or he’ll come and run O’s offense.

Haven't heard he is the top candidate but is being seriously vetted. public backlash has helped push this option.

No. There is no indication that Steve is the guy.
Its too early to say Gilbert is the one obviously, but there is a chance that Gilbert gets this thing knocked out of the park in one fell swoop and just blows Alleva out of his chair.
In my sources words, the AD is "highly satisfied" with his first impression of Gilbert.
And hello TBL! Your input is always appreciated.

Came to post this. Spread concept guy that actually understands you have to have run concepts in your offense.

Upward trajectory though. If I recall, he was way down Texas’ list when they were looking for an OC though.

Power spread, best type of system in football.

Should have just listened to me last year... when will y’all learn???? Sign him up

Dave Aranda is our Associate Head Coach. I want him right by Orgeron’s side during these interviews and having a huge say so in the ultimate decision. More so than fricken Alleva anyway.

He was fired from texas with the coaching change, followed strong to USF. Before that he was getting his career started.
Not sure that really matters about this 5 jobs in 6 years.
