Dude took a bunch of 2 stars at a nothing program and beat teams like UGA, VTech, Oregon, Oklahoma, TCU, Washington among others.. often on the road, while of course compiling a string of big win seasons.
UWash may not be a bottom barrel program and he is paid well there, but it's also not a top flight place to be in todays college landscape.

He may not be ready to leave yet. He liked staying at Boise and only the fact that he loves the U of Washington lured him away. If he can get the program turned around he might be comfortable staying there for a long while.

I think he wants to be under the radar. It took forever for him to leave Boise with offers every year. He could've been USC's head coach and chose UW

He isn't leaving Washington. That is a program where you need everything to fall into place to win at an elite level.
Right now Oregon rules that division and they will until Scott Frost leaves for a head coaching job. He called a marvelous game last night to beat Stanford.

A lot of coaches have won at Boise and flamed out at bigger jobs: Houston Nutt (fired at Arkansas and Ole Miss), Dirk Koetter (fired at Arizona St), Dan Hawkins (fired at Colorado), Chris Peterson (?). When are people going to realize that winning at Boise does not necessarily make you a great coach?

1) Washington is a borderline top 20 program historically.

Washington is a better job than every opening except for USC. And by a lot.

And the current coach at Boise with one of their worst teams in recent memory (already 3 losses none to power 5) beat Petersen this year.

He will not leave Wasjington anytime soon. It's close to where his son gets treatment.

Nonsense, it's still a very good job. Sark recruited some very good talent there, he just wasn't that great of a coach. Petersen is really struggling to adjust to the level of competition both on the field and in recruiting. Lucky for him the expectations aren't too crazy over there and they'll give him time to turn it around.

Petersen chose to essentially blow everything up and build it from scratch. Bad for short term results, but it should pay off in the long term. Sark recruited some positions well, but also left a lot of huge holes on the roster.
I'm not sure of the exact stats, but I know that Oklahoma State was the youngest team in college football last year and Washington is younger than that team was. Next year should be much improved and 2017 should be a big year for Washington.

He needs to find his Kellen Moore before things will turn around. That poor freshmen QB just looks lost out there.

I think Browning is going to be really good. He would have had a monster game yesterday if the WRs didn't drop wide open passes. Without easy drops, UW takes a 35-0 lead in the 2nd quarter yesterday.

when was the last time Washington was actually good, I mean besides 40 years ago when Don James was trying to teach Gary Pinkel some offense. Something even the legendary Don James could NOT do.

We've had some rough years since Neuheisel left. A combination of a terrible AD and some terrible hires. The last really good season was when we won the Rose Bowl in 2000. The 30 years prior to that, UW had the best winning % in the Pac-10. The right coach can turn UW back into a great program.

I loved that team. While the world was screaming about Miami getting screwed out of the Orange Bowl that year, I vividly remember making daily arguments for U-Dub during lunch in high school
I really didn't expect the nightmare Gilbertson and Willingham reaped after Neuheisel got canned. I thought that program was set to be as competitive as they always had been.
