I didn’t think it was a terrible hire per se, just a really strange one.
Linehan has a history of utilizing choice routes in his passing game and involving the RBs so I understood it from that angle but i saw enough cowboys games over the years to know why they were glad to see him eventually go.
At this stage in his coaching career he’s probably an NFL QB coach, maybe OC for a young offensive mind who needs an old hand around for guidance. I was equally surprised he was interested in coming back to the college game too

This year was a perfect example that it isn’t about the playbook alone. You need the creative guy who can plan, find matchups and pull strings. However E and Brady worked together in the booth, it’s clear where the aggressiveness and the creation of favorable matchups came from.
If you set 2019 aside, we would have been thrilled with this year’s offensive performance on the heels of 2018. The playbook and philosophy definitely made E a better playcaller than he was before on his own. But we can’t forget 2019. Once you see an offense like that firing on all cylinders, it’s hard to step back to just being better than 2018.
