This is my take on it.
You have a roster full of mainly black young men. You need a diverse staff. You need people who have been in their shoes and can connect with them when the going gets rough.
There are plenty of brilliant minds in football who are black. There is absolutely nothing wrong with targeting one of them and it’s kind of disgusting seeing the blow back against it.

Everyone should want equal opportunity. I personally don't believe in equal outcome.
It's not like we have an all white staff.
But if the coach is good and succeeds I, nor anyone, should give a shite about their skin color.
If they fail and are fired then it shouldn't be made as a rascist event.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Coach O or anyone else saying “I need a black guy in a coordinator position to help me reach these kids” and identifying the best hire to meet you’re criteria.
A lot goes on inside the workings of a football team that holds 100 kids and race relations is one of them.
If that’s an area Ed feels like he could reinforce while also improving his on the field defense then that’s absolutely what should happen.
And if that’s what Woodward feels needs to happen then he also should be making that suggestion.

Kinda weird to say that considering several position coaches are black. If Raymond, Joseph, Faulk, and Bo Davis can't reach them, I don't how a black coordinator changes anything. Bama doesn't have a coordinator race requirement and they seem to be doing just fine.

Skin color shouldn’t be a factor in our dc hire. I don’t care if the best person for the job is black, tan, white or yellow. Putting some restriction saying it must be a minority is just limiting the pool and frankly insulting to the person we hire.

Past performance, X's and O's, scheme, recruiting prowess and likeability are just about the ONLY things that determine "BEST guy available". Take your racist bullshite and shove it. Otherwise it is simply the "Best minority candidate available", and that sucks a huge dick.
It's quite possible that all that applies to a minority ATM, it is also possible that it does not.
