Schiano would have been a great hire and would have had them in a better place. Why you don't allow a journalist to dictate a coaching search.

Hell. They actually downgraded from Proot. I look forward to playing the shitty offensive system we were forced to run with Lock.

Good Lord Tennessee. Their coaching searches are always fun...start out with enormous amounts of optimism that this will be the time they land the big fish and then hard crash

Lock lead the league in touchdowns and yards, didn't he?

I actually think it's a decent hire considering circumstances.

Missouri had the #8 total offense in 2017 and the number #13 total offense in 2016 with Heupel as OC.

He had the #2 offense in the country in 2020 and 2019 @ UCF & #5 total offense in 2018.

I'm not high on the hire, but looking from the outside-in it doesn't look like his offense is the issue. What am I missing? I honestly know nothing about this guy and am genuinely curious

I don't know about y'all, but I love the Tennessee Coaching Search show.

I just wish they didn't go 3-4 years between seasons.

At the very least it seems that Harrison Bailey will get coached. That alone will improve the Tennessee offense. Especially from a watchability standpoint.

I think it’s the fact that UCF fans hate him after this year. Thought we were the Alabama of the AAC after 2017-18.

He also seemed to have a less than amicable split when he left Mizzou even though he left for a head coaching job.

He's hopped around a bunch. I think he's just not that likeable in general.

Side note, I saw him speak in person in St Louis when he was with Mizzou. It was a signing day event to introduce the new class that year (Albert O's class, his are the only highlights I remember). Heupel has comically small hands. He's like the guy from the Burger King commercials.

Decent is a good word. His offenses will put up points, but is ugly to watch when it’s not clicking. Will need that UT money to hire a good staff for recruiting.

Which was the dumbest thing ever.

He’s definitely dry, not a win the press conference guy. Can’t fault the guy for taking bigger jobs when he got fired at his alma mater because Stoops couldn’t fire his brother.

I sure as hell hope so. I'd hate to see Bailey just waste away his talent like so many other UT players the last decade

I was not impressed with that one read offense. It was boom or bust in the passing game and if they played a D with a pulse, it’d go 3 and out constantly without using clock, leading to horrific defenses.

Gimmick of the highest order as one side of the field is nothing but a decoy that doesn’t even attempt to make it look like they’re running a route.

Doesn’t do anything to develop QB skills. It’s why Lock looks like arse in the NFL. Never had to read anything or call anything at the line. It’s the dumbest of dumb offenses.

Purdue straight up embarrassed our O in 2017 and the O contributed heavily to stumble fricking our way to a five game skid. And that’s with Lock. Tenner doesn’t have that QB talent.

I'd be shocked 1) if Bailey was the starter and 2) if Bailey is still on the team in the fall. Heupel's offense typically has a mobile qb forcing the D to play 11 on 11 ball. There were many reasons that our offense sucked last year, but one of them was b/c Bailey/JG/Shrout were not threats to run, thus the backside of the DL could crash and catch the RB. Heupel's offense thrives on a mobile qb that prevents that. We just signed one in Kaidon Salter, and got another in a transfer from VT, Hendon Hooker. My guess is that one of those two will be the qb.

As an LSU fan looking from afar I wouldn`t worry about
his X&O ability ,concern yourselves with the recruiting
and off the field dealing with rich alums. He is not very
carismatic. If you look at his record at UCF each year his
win totals went down.Mainly due to SF players having
either graduating or just leaving. The point is JH did not
replace the talent the last 2yrs .Its all about recruiting.
As a tiger fan I understand why people laugh at coach O,
BUT 3 TOP 10 recruiting classes will make it hard to not
win 9-11 games a year in normal times.
