Ole Miss got a steal and probably the best coach it could have landed. No wonder the Orgeron firing came so suddenly.

Ark. reportedly offered Nutt 2.4M a year to stay.

He has other plans.

if Chancellor White is to be believed, he changed the language in HDN's contract after the Carolina game making it easier for him to walk, if he decided to. yet, they offer an extension?

the kicker still to me is the Ole Myth job...why in the hell would White let him walk to an SEC West school? we need to get that dude from the Ar. Demo-Gazette that wrote the book on Mitch and the Springdale football team on this story. that gumshoe would give us the lowdown.

surprised? maybe that the drama played out as long as it did. otherwise, i think that whole presser was a croc... except the part where Frank was digging at some deep rooted boogers from his snout (kinda reminded me of Bobby Cox).

they should have (and could have) handled this the same way a year and a half ago.

It was past his bedtime. Jeff long could be on the hot seat this time next week.

I can't believe it! Archie Manning may have been sober on the CBS telecast Saturday!

They were discussing the Ole Miss job and others and as they were ending the conversation and going to commercial, Archie mumbled..."Don't be surprised by Ole Miss going after Houston Nutt."

I thought he was just making a wish.....

Nutt is a very good coach. If Ole Miss gets him that will be a major step up for them.

I like Houston; he seems to be a great coach. He actually reminds me of Spurrier. Wasn't he real close to filling Saban's shoes at LSU?

maybe Stuttgart or Pioneer can give some info, but the whole drama around HDN started around this time...keep in mind, the LSU gig he supposedly inquired about came after he left the Nebraska plane on the tarmac at NWA the yr. before.

at a local touchdown club. Jimmy sexton touched on this. Nick saban said that nutt was the toughest coach to game plan for. Thats it. Sexton claims saban never brought nutt up as the next coach at lsu.

Saban gave Nutt's name to Skip. Skip called and was told by Sexton or Nutt himself that he wouldn't interview for the job. It had to be offered outright. He couldn't go through the interview process and be ok with his current job if it didn't work out. This was because of the fallout he'd experienced from the Nebraska situation.

Skip didn't want to do it that way so they moved on.

As I understand it was very brief. I remember this hitting the radio on a Friday. I about died when I heard it.

Frank referenced Saban's comments about how competitive Nutt was tonight at the news conference.

If you think Nutt left on his own terms and left all that money on the table you are not informed on the situation. Nutt was forced out, make no mistake about it. That 2.4 crap is a PR move to help everyone save face. Ark. money men have been looking to get rid of the Nuttster for quite a long time.

Yep, now if they could only get some fan support and "football" players, they might field a competitive team again. (But I hope not.)
