but missing out on Freeman might ultimately turn out to be not so bad of a thing. If the reasoning behind his decision is to be believed and he wants to stay in the Midwest, I mean that’s really limiting your potential job options to a pretty select few openings in the future. It may say something about his big picture ambitions as a coach. The dudes that are up for anything, anytime, anywhere tend to be the most competitive.

Reminds me the the giant, unflappable erection Tom Herman had for Texas. He just HAD to have the Texas job regardless of logic or reason. Look how he turned out. I think if Freeman was the big dick swinging coach that we want and need, he’d be at LSU.

I guess. Idk. That’s all I got.

He’s not the only DC in the country. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t really want him and am disappointed he’s not coming to LSU but you’re right. He had two choices and he chose a different route, so be it. Let’s get someone else that can do the job, that person exists.

I agree that he was a hot name, not really proven outside of the hype at Cincinnati. Made his decision on comfort and ease.

I would promote Raymond, he wants to be a DC, then hire a badass DL coach and LB coach.

Yeah he is good and will be fine at Nd but it’s not the same as coaching in the sec.

Plenty of good options out there but not happy about how this went down and O showing his hand and failing.

That's not the same thing as hiring O and good coordinators. DC has to call plays.

Raymond has been a coach for 20 years, he wants to be a DC, why not give him a shot. Calling plays is not rocket science

Why don't you interview for the job?

Does Raymond know what plays to call in situational football?

Does he know how to call a blitz package and call it at the right time?

Does he prefer a 3-4 or 4-3?

Can he do anything other than recruit/coach our badass DBs

Notre Dame was in the playoff this year. We were 5-5. He didn't turn down LSU for a lesser job.

Now that our top candidate has turned down the job, we need to do full interviews and thoroughly evaluate. No need to rush now

How did O fail? Maybe the south failed. Maybe Baton Rouge failed. Maybe no one or no thing failed. Maybe comfort won. Maybe the prestige of Notre Dame to a Midwest guy won.

I can agree on that, does it suck we missed out? Absolutely. But I don’t think this is one you can put on the staff it seems like they threw everything at him

I just want a DC that is similar to Freeman’s style. I don’t want a DC that can only run a 4-3 or just a 3-4. I want someone innovative and builds his defense to his players strengths.
Mike Nolan is that type but he is an NFL guy.
David Reeves seems to be another good one.

Ordinarily I’d agree, but according to accounts who were in the room with Freeman interview he’s highly intelligent and pointed out numerous structural changes/deficiencies from LSU game film this season.

There’s a reason he was the only and primary target, even if O was foolish to show the cards so publicly.

Norte Dame had a good year, but we just came off of the greatest one. Not to mention we’ve played in the championship game 4 times in the last 17 years. In the 21st century, Norte Dame IS the lesser job. That’s not even mentioning our penchant for paying top dollar to assistants.

Is it not too late to get Bo Pelini back? I am dead serious! He was turning the corner for LSU! I was shocked that he was fired after a very bad start. Give the guy a second chance and maybe he will turned around a get his revenge on those that beat his system last year. This will be to save face if I would Orgeron and LSU.

Have you ever played or coached football? I have... raymond has been in meetings with Pelini, Aranda, and Steele. Those DC’s don’t just arbitrarily call defense on their own, they work as a group.

I am pretty sure Raymond has learned situational football.

I am also sure that Raymond can switch between a 4-3 and a 3-4. Don’t let your blind rage about Freeman damper what Raymond could do.

Yes I've played football from 6 or 7 to 20 years old. Just because you've been around alot of coaches does NOT mean that you can create, master, and call your own scheme and be successful. The guy has never done anything but teach the DBs how to play SEC football. If Coach O's job security was a bit better, then maybe he could afford to try that. But at this moment you couldn't logically expect O to put his job on the line for a guy like Raymond.
