Gilbert isn’t the only one. Most of these systems don’t utilize a playbook

this is actually one of the most underrated things about offenses derived from the classic spread and spread option offenses: they're simple

if you can create an offense with simple concepts, it makes coaching the offense easier and allows players to play more efficiently on the field

think less. play faster

this is the POLAR opposite of the Cam/Les offense that was simply too complicated for college players and would never have sustained success. yes, once in a blue moon you'd hit the right QB/WR grouping and ball out (like 2013) but it would never be consistent

"When you start to minimize the thinking process, it allows you to go faster"

Yeah screw all that thinking stuff

I haven’t heard of anyone using an actual playbook in years (outside of miles and the few remaining old school offensive guys)

Right, Chip Kelly believes that you should only have a maximum of 6 plays per formation

Yeah screw all that thinking stuff

this isn't the pros

that is the correct philosophy for offense in college, especially in the SEC. let the coaches think and the players play

if you make the players think too much, you get the LSU offense under Cam Cameron

I’m really interested to see how the Veer and Shoot would work with LSU athletes.

yeah Mike Leach taught CFB that you can run the same play over and over, just run it from a different formation

that's why his play sheet often was a little piece of paper

here's a pic from the old UK days with Leach and Mumme changing college football forever

here's Dana Holgerson (who coached with Leach and Mumme at Valdosta way back in the day) with a pretty small one, too

Leach says you can put his entire “playbook” on a Standard index card. You don’t need this complex verbiage to have a successful offense.

It’s literally 2 words. ex: Ace RT 96 Y Cross

Bio from USF

This gives more info on Gilbert. Coached Jimmy G (49ers QB) in college. His offense has produced everywhere he’s been. Figured some would like to see it. SIAP.

I've kind of been on the Gilbert bandwagon for a while which means 1 of 2 things. Either he's not coming here or he's not a good choice.

Count me in for Gilbert—which probably means it won’t happen.

I'd only heard of him from this stint at Texas, but just read his bio/resume', and it's pretty impressive.

I like this ties to the state of Texas and the fact he's developed some QBs, including Jimmy Garoppolo.
