For those interested, if Billy Napier takes a new job before the end of 2021, he (or the school that hires him) will have to pay Louisiana-Lafayette a $3 million buyout.
shite.
Adjusted for inflation, that’s like 35 bucks from when the contract was first signed.

ULL needs that $3mil because RCAF only raised like 1.2mil over the past year. Not sure how they are affording Napier at $2mil a year as it is.
And if they make a good next hire, they need to set the buyout similarly. Nothing of consequence for the school hiring him away, but nice bump for the athletic dept.
IIRC, Napier will represent the first ULL head coach to be hired away in my lifetime, nearly 40 years.

Another guy who has no clue what he is talking about
RCAF doesn't raise P5 type money but the athletic department raised almost 30M last year. The previous year was just over 6. Previous high was just over 12 in 2018-2019.
The half (15m) of that was to secure the naming rights for Cajun Field from Our Lady of Lourdes (that's the same group as Our Lady of the Lake).

On the off chance anyone actually wants to know

Are we talking about a $3,000,000 buyout being an obstacle for the University of Florida?

In football, correct.
Women's softball lost their head coach to LSU back around 2001.
She was one hell of a coach.
From Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yvette_Girouard
quote:
Girouard is one of only three coaches to take two teams to the Women's College World Series. She was the National Fastpitch Coaches Association National Coach of the Year in 1990 and 1993; the Southland Conference Coach of the Year in 1984, 1985, and 1987; the Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year in 2000; and the Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year in 2001, 2002, and 2006. She is also a 13-time winner of Louisiana Coach of the Year. Between her stints at Louisiana-Lafayette and LSU, her career record is 1,285-421-1.

ULL got 18 Mil from the school ( aka State) in 2019 AND was still 5 mil over budget so required another 5 mil from the state of LA lol
Raising 30 mil of a one time stadium Reno when you're selling naming rights for 15 of that isn't really impressive.
They're great at raising money if that money is just kick backs from the institution which account for 50% of it's revenue while still not covering their actual costs ( even pre pandemic)

I'm familiar with Girouard. But on a football coaching changes board talking about buyouts, that she exists doesn't matter shite.

Right, I have no illusions about RCAF being an impressive fund raising machine but they do raise more than the 1.2 M per year.
ULL is a G5 school, how many G5 schools have athletic departments that are in the black in even a single year? They have progressed by leaps and bounds since Authement retired in terms of generating athletic department funding.

Napier wants to go to LSU over Florida. He knows he’s the second option. If the Sooners beat the Cowboys Saturday he’s in at LSU. Things will start to happen rapidly after that game is over.

It the coaching changes board, not the football coaching changes board, though it is currently football coaching change season. You did make a blanket statement, though i suspected you meant football, hence the qualifying first statement. I really just used the opportunity to say something nice about a great coach. One both fanbases loved.

They way over spend considering their income.
They've been spending hand over fist for facilities they can't afford and pay Napier more then double every coach in that conference.
I would say if I'm a P5 president getting 1.2 mil a year from fundraising would be an expectation not something I'd be excited about. That's basically 70% of your job as AD
Not many P5s are in the black but there's very few that take the majority of their revenue from the school then do such a poor job budgeting that they still need to get bailed out by an extra 5 mil.
To put it this way ULL got more money from State funds ( the school) then the entire ULM athletic budget.
Obviously it's just accounting tricks but still that's a large amount of cash in our state that was cutting the shite out of school budgets until like 3 years ago.
ULL has done a great job in the past decade and I hand it to them but they're not some financial powerhouse they're basically using the state to build stuff for them lol.
Although credit to them that's some next level power playing pulling it off in Louisiana
Posted on 11/26/21 at 2:33 pm to Enzos Tiny Pito
The power play works until the school needs the money for facilities, etc. The Cajuns are hedging all their bets on getting a healthy student fee passed. It's creative accounting to pump up their numbers, but it the student fee doesn't pass it won't be long before the chickens come home to roost and their athletic department has to make some serious decisions. I would expect recruiting, coa, and other perks will be first to get combed over.
