My Coaching Search Advice

1) Don't get caught-up in isolated head-to-head games. Rather, look at results across entire seasons and longer. Pay special attention to what coaches do after a loss. Every team has a low point or lays an egg in a season. It happens.
2) No coach who's coached for any time will come without some skeletons in their closet. The best have them.
3) The SEC is not for the faint of heart. Many "successful" coaches in other contexts have only to get their team "up" for 2 or 3 big games a year.
4) Good coaches learn and mature. Just because they had a bad season somewhere in their past is not a disqualifier.
5) The name of the game is championships (courtesy of Bill Arnsparger). If a candidate doesn't get that I'll pass.

Excellent summary. Here are my point values for each:
#1 - 15
#2 - 15
#3 - 25
#4 - 15
#5 - 30
No. 3 is the most difficult for me. Take a coach like Herman whose teams are throwing the ball in a run-gun offense. I have a want for him, but would that mix work year after year in the SEC? What would you do with tailbacks that we recruit so well, give them 10-12 carries a game?
My guess would be a coach such as Herman would be able to strike the right balance, but this is going to be the challenge of this first in a long time hire.
I concentrate on him in violation of point #1 because he is my favorite.

My advice: make Herman an offer he literally cannot refuse. Do no allow him to say no.

Zeke Elliot rushed for 1900 yards, 18 TDs, 6.9 ypc in 2014 under Herman. He is not a one trick pony.

We are all more worried about the skeletons out of the closet.
Some people don't have enough closet space.

I'm guessin' that was CEO's record at OM?
Fair enough, but most think Saban is a better coach now than when he was here. Arnsparger had a dismal record in the NFL and did ok.
CEO had already redeemed himself somewhat from his brief stint at USC. If he knocks it out of the park I'd be ok giving him another at-bat.
