I Call BS! According to Belowpar, Miles had spoken with Krag and other candidates and now the buyout is a problem? I didn't think the offensive staff got new contracts when they got those raises in October??? There contracts are not up until February 2010. They all had 3 years contracts from 2007? Maybe someone with access to open records can find out if you really want to know.
From Belowpar:
Crowton-I don't think is quite as for sure as I thought. Miles has definitely talked to possible candidates, but there is talk around LSU that it might be too expensive to buy him out at this point. That is out of Miles hand I believe. We will see what happens.
1. I think Belowpar knows more than he can share from his source(s), and have been asked to keep it under his hat. I have a hard thinking a buyout of $1-1.5 mill is the problem.
If that is the case, and I am a Coach Miles Homer, how in the world will LSU buy him out next year, like many of you hope for, with a buyout in excess of $10 million? If can't buyout an OC for a million, TAF sure as hell won't part with that type of coin next year.
2. Coach Miles had every intention of bringing back GC. But why would he "interview" other possible replacements? Again, not buying the buyout problem.
3. There will be a new OC named sometimes after the bowl game. CM is giving GC a chance to find other employment and he has someone in mind as his replacement, or will move Gonzales to OC. The stuff in the press I feel is "Miles speak." He replaced 2 of his best friends (Co-D) last year. He made the changes last year, and our offense has been putrid this year, and no QB development in 2 years from GC. I am not a GC hater. I thought it was a great hire at the time.
Gary Crowton will not return as OC!!
Thoughts!

This sounds the most plausible at this point...

This has been discussed over and over but here it is one more time. If Miles is fired without cause, he is due $1.825 million for each year remaining on his contract which currently runs through 2012.
He would be paid that over a period equal to twice the length remaining; in other words he'd get $900K and change per year until it's paid in full. If he gets another coaching job during that time, the payments stop.

It's STILL $1.825 MILLION A YEAR!! Doesn't matter how many years! YOU ARE LIVING IN LA LA LAND IF YOU THINK MILES IS GONE AFTER a 10-3 or 9-4 year even IF he goes 7-5 next year. AIN't GONNA HAPPEN!

perhaps Crowton told Miles he was going to explore a couple of other options and Miles was just covering his bases...

If he goes 7-5 next season, he is done. You can take that to the bank. If outside forces are making him keep Crowton as is being speculated, that very well may be the end game.

Is it possible that the guy we got from Florida will be the O-coordinator after the bowl game and the guy from the Bills will assume post at the WR coach position?

very interesting.
If so, I would contend that this may be Miles' downfall. Tuberville was where Miles is now, in a continuous state of flux at the end of the season, constantly trying to hire a new fix for each new problem. Eventually it caught up with him - all it takes is one bad hire.....

Martavius, you obviously don't understand how to read contacts then.
First off, Miles contract was extended through 2012 in 2007 prior to the SEC CG.
Secondly, after the NC, his contract was renewed at a higher salary based on his NC clause to $3.751M a year.
Third, he got another extension after last season for winning 8 games pushing his contract to 2013.
Assuming he DOESN'T get the extension, he's owed the balance of his contract if fired without cause. The number you keep referencing like a retard is his original salary when he first signed, and NOT his current salary. If you look at his contract extensions, there is a reason it says a buyout can't be more than $18.75M because that's the max length he can have in the current format.
If he does NOT get his extension for this season (which I am praying they aren't stupid enough to award him), he'll be owed $11.253M payable over 6 years or ~ $1.88M a year. That's a FACT! Look at the UPDATED contract and use common sense. They don't have to rewrite the whole contract for the extension. You have to read the extension itself and apply THOSE values to the previous buyout clauses.

Why would a WR coach in the NFL take the same position in College ONLY to coach under a college WR coach promoted to the OC? Some people's logic is amazing to me.
I am telling you, Tyke wanted the job and the only reason he was willing to take it was his worries about NFL lockout. He wanted a longer contract than LSU was willing to give (taking the demotion for financial security) and he chose not to accept it. That's it. If Gonzales is our choice for OC assuming Crowton is let go, LSU is effed.

I know it's in there that he gets an extension after 8 wins, but it is at the discretion of the Chancellor.
And, if I'm not mistaken, Miles was not given that extra year last year.
Posted on 12/13/09 at 5:26 pm to RummelTiger
RummelTiger, I am not sure if he got it last year either, but I thought he did. Even if that is wrong. It's still means he's on tap through 2012 at $3.751M a year.
It goes down then to ~$7.5M over 4 years at the thes ~1.8M/year for the following 4 years. If people are worried about paying $463,000 a year for 2 years to buyout Crowton, are we realistically thinking we can buy out Miles next year and Crowton again too if the team doesn't improve?

Miles was not given an extension last season despite the 8 wins. I cant find it in print but I'm pretty certain its true.

Maybe BelowPar can clear up things in regards to Miles contract length as of right now since he seems to be in the know.

I agree 100%. No way buy out Miles if, supposedly, money may be an issue w/ Crowton for his salary. How do you buy out Miles, Crowton and all the other coaches next year, if CM have a "bad" season like many on here keeping hoping.

Mudminnow, I am hoping that you are right. IF that is true, I hope he doesn't get one after this season either, only to not handcuff LSU if a change needs to be made. I am hoping Miles can turn things around on offense next season, but he has to basically win 1 of UF or Bama next season to keep the fans IMO. Next year both will be losing a lot, and should be our best chance. We'll see what happens.
