Mississippi law prevents all schools from anything more then a four year contract

Interesting. Mississippi law prevents Mississippi schools from providing more than a four year contract. This could actually be something in regards to Auburn going after him. Let’s say Auburn offered a 7 year deal worth a lot. Ole Miss would have to try and match it but in a four year period. I don’t think he will be their top choice but Kiffin could get a very nice yearly bump. Lot of money for OM. Say Auburn goes with a 8 million plus for 7 year. Ole miss would have to go at least 13 million plus per year at 4 years. Possibly booster money gets around it?

Wording and incentives help balance it out. Kiffin is probably going to make $10 million this year. It’s saved both schools A LOT of money in buyouts over the years though

While technically true, the boosters (where the real money comes from as the state portion is very minimal) could technically guarantee to pay him for however long they wanted to. So while his contract with the state is only 4 years, a separate contract with the boosters could be made for however long they want.

That law has saved state and ole miss millions in buyout money. Alabama may want to pass something similar to save auburn from itself

The athletic foundation can make it whatever it wants. It just has to be stated publicly for 4 years. It really isn't that big of a deal except for the headline.

Imagine if Texas had this in place

If all states did the same thing it would be great. Problem is there is not an equal playing field.
