After reading the article in the Advocate this morning I cannot for the life of me put my finger on Miles right now. Is he being evasive or reluctant to pull the triger on dumping these two DCs out of ego or whatever? I can't believe the man actually hasn't entertained this as he says he hasn't. I blind man can see what has happened here this year. Question is, why is he playing dodge ball with this? Wouldn't it be better to just come out and admit you made a mistake, when we all know it anyway, and just take your lumps like a man, and FIX IT for the good of the program if not for your own future even?

That rope is getting awful taut and it's coming down to either pulling this thing out the ditch or hanging yourself with it. I guess that's Mile's baby, and LSU might suffer short term for it, but not for long. I sure hope Miles doesn't lose complete control of this thing.

We will have a new DC. Don't worry about that.

I hope so Chicken. I guess I'm just impatient and want Miles to get us the best available DC and get back to the business of kicking butt here in the SECW.

How does he go about doing it if we all need to know right now? It just isn't done like that very much and we know that when he does make the descision, he will be demoting/firing friends, not just colleagues or coworkers. He's in a tough spot and LSU will have someone in place for when it really counts... next years team.

its better for LSU if Miles takes care of his assistants right now. We can be looking for DC without firing ours right now. Let the guys get other jobs while we find our new guy

You both make excellent points, and after reflection, I think you are both right. Les is a truly "Good Man" who I think is about as loyal and character driven as they come, a fossil just like myself.

In any case, I do think he is looking after his people, and doesn't want to publicly call them out and embarass them, but help them land other jobs without making a public spectacle of both it and them. Like I told Chicken, I think I'm just impatient and ready to get crackin on the recruiting trail and in getting the best guy available before everyone else starts picking the cream of the crop.

I really believe Miles has already decided to fire the CO-DCs but is waiting for Peveto to get the NSU job. He doesn't want to fire Peveto while he's attempting to get that job, it would hurt his chances. Once NSU makes a decision, the chips will fall. I'm confident Miles is already in contact w/ potential DC replacements.

I don't really agree with this. I doubt it would hurt his chances. Clearly they saw how terrible our D has been and if they want him, they will hire him regardless. Just my opinion though.

So here's why he hasn't canned them yet:

Scenario 1: Pleasing the fans

1) Fire Malleveto while negotiating with a replacement (say, Chavis)
2) Replacement negotiates between multiple schools that need new DC's (say, Georgia, Auburn, LSU)
3) Talks drag out, LSU hires a DC right around Xmas
4) Defense hasn't been able to be coached in the tree.

Scenario 2: What Miles probably is doing
1) Let Malleveto know it isn't working out and that he/they need to take new jobs.
2) Interviewing multiple candidates by talking to agents, phone calls with prospective DC's
3) Allowing Malleveto to coach their last game at LSU as D Coordinator, still will give up points
4) Announcing a new DC the day after the bowl game.

Truth is it's obvious that changes will be made, as fans of course we want to know immediately, but it's more important that it is done properly than to please an irrational fan base that holds a march to get you to stay one year and then tells you you're the worst coach ever the next and doesn't even stay for full games.

That's the Rant in a nutshell.

Geezzz man how bout people get off LM nutts for a day and let him make the decisions that he gets paid to make. If you don't like those decisions than stop buying tickets or sending money till LSU hires you to run the football program

He gave all of the details if you read closely: "I haven't given thought to those areas. I wouldn't talk honestly about them if I had."

You can't throw guys with families under the bus when they are out recruiting and job hunting. If Peveto is the first choice in Natchitoches, then that's going to be that solution. As long as the guy (and all fingers point to Chavis) knows that, the only other big threads to take care of are Orgeron (if that's being worked out) and Mallory.

But clearly, there's enough smoke - and the magical number "5", which was tossed about before I even knew that Stud was on the short list for BGSU's head coaching vacancy, is starting to gel:

Peveto
Lane
Mallory
Robinson
Stud

Henson may slide to Special Teams Coordinator (definitely makes sense for a TE Coach)

O comes in for DL and Recruiting Coordinator
Chavis comes in for DC and LB
Slade comes with Chavis to coach DBs

BTW - Since yesterday, ALL of Tennessee's defensive coaches have been removed from the team's website:

Tennessee Coaches

That tells me something's afoot....

I can think of a worse group. Actually I likie a lot. I believe we really could use a guy like O, especially in recruiting this state, and his aggressive mentality. Chavis' accomplishments are pretty well established, and although he might not be who everyone wants, he is most surely a big step in the right direction.

I hope this is similar to how it pans out.

Well, just keep reminding yourself that no matter what happens when with the coaching situation, that business can't start back up until September anyway. So we're in for a long wait no matter what.

He did really well with his defense there and the NSUers like him. Per a defensive player, Peveto was DC in title only and they blame Mallory for the confusion and woes. Regardless, the players still like and respect both of them. They just want someone else calling the plays.

If he would go for it, I would like this as well. I said from the beginning the knock on O at Ole Miss was just whether he was ready to jump from position coach to head coach. He seemed to simply be over his head (much like Archer as HC at LSU).

The only question is whether he would make the jump from the NFL to a position coaching job at LSU?

I like Henson as the recruiting coordinator. It doesn't mean that you are the best recruiter on staff. It means that you handle most of the administrative stuff with regards to recruiting including scheduling, budgeting, and setting up trips

.

Some of my UT friends blame Slade for the turn and run play of their defensive backs.

O is one the few coaches in America that i could think could go toe-to-toe with Saban as far as getting recruits. Coach O is relentless recruiter, and i think he could keep the kids like JM, RR in state, and pull kids out of state like MS, AL, etc.

Say what you want about his recruiting at OM. Just stop there. It's OM. He recruited very well there. And i know that this won't go in recruiting rankings, but getting Snead to OM was basically that. That was a major coup for Orgeron. He NEVER had a decent QB while at OM. Schaffa stunk it up. You could attribute alot of their record to having decent QB play this year.
