You can hold onto 2005-2007 as much as you want, it doesn't erase 8-5 and 9-4.
and you can hang on to 8-5 & 9&4 and it won't take away any of the 11 win seasons or championships.

Are you proposing miles take a paycut and a year to year contract? R u retahded?

Beyond the President coming down and saying, cancel this contract and replace it with a new one, it will not happen. That call would be made from the top but I've seen crazier shite happen in my limited tenure.

That's the information I got as well. His contract is stuck at 2014 and cannot be rolled over anymore. To get it extended beyond that, he will be required to agree to a new contract with LSU.

This is 2011. Miles just won his 11th game of the 2010 season. Apparently you overcame Saban's 2 8 win seasons...just sad.

I just think it's hilarious that Les would be leveraging for more in his contract, when he lost 9 games over the previous two seasons and finished this season at 3rd in the SEC West.
I don't know if it Les is asking for more money...if I implied that, I am sorry...I have no clue. But going 11-2, with your only losses to two teams in the brutal SEC West that went to BCS bowls...not shabby...and clearly, this team has improved since the low of 2008.

Les has the team in a great position to compete for the next 3-4 years...you have to give him credit.

I can only speak for the money given out by the University. That's the portion I'm responsible for. If TAF wants to increase his promotional or money through their funds, I can't speak to that but we're not giving him any more years or money. We can't and we're against it.
U seem pretty ethical.

At least Miles never finished 4th in the SECW like Saban at Bama this year.

Not at all. This has been a successful season and he has a contract paying him $3.75 Million/year through 2014 (where his contract is limited).

He gets an extension if he wins the SEC West in the next 2 years, IMO. If he doesn't win it in those two years, you give him a 1 year extension at lower salary with minimum guaranteed money.

I feel that's reasonable. By winning the NC and SEC titles in 2007 he got himself 6 years of top money and won't get anything extra outside of bowl bonuses until he wins another title. Why is that so harsh?

Then again, I know what type of people I am dealing with on this board, so it's not surprising.

Not about being ethical, it's State Law. LSU is strapped for cash (academically) and giving the guy more money would not be good PR at the moment.

cutting someones salary is by definition "harsh" and in this case stupid.

At least Nick never had a losing SEC record while here like Les in 2008. Oh wait, that's not Les' fault either, right?

I forgot Les got 3rd in the west that year because MSU, Arky, and Auburn were total shite.

Where did I say cut his salary? He's got $26.25 Million worth of money just from 2008-2014 (including his guaranteed money).

I am all for performance based pay and a 2-4 year contract. I say extend him to 4 years each year assuming he meets some basic performance benchmarks like wins, but no extra guaranteed money and no more than 2 years guaranteed. This protects LSU should Les not win a title again or go down the shitter (unlikely).

In the end, I am for protecting LSU. Period.

The contract reads like it is a year to year contract in some places, and a contract to infinity in other places. It wasma rush job. Neither side liked it when they had the time to go over it

And your point. Your salary should be based on performance, and not what you did 8 years earlier.

You can keep Les at $3.75 Million/year, but he should only have 2 years equivalent guaranteed IMO. Even if you want him at 5 years each time, make at MOST the guaranteed money as half of his contract.

Should LSU remain handcuffed to the man even if he never wins another SEC West title again?

Exactly. I wish they'd rewrite it this year. LSU actually has some leverage. I think everyone wants to see the University protected and I think if anything, that'd be the main objective of a new contract.

ditto that. irrespecitve of his whacky tendencies, four of out six w/11 win seasons is something Spurrier didn't do at Fl., Meyer didn't do at Fl., and something Nick Lou has never done as well.

frustrations and all, that's not bad.
