Michigan would do well to drop the term "Michigan Man"

It obviously does not mean that much in today's coaching world. Les is now an "LSU Man" and Michigan would do well to go find themselves a quality coach and quit worrying about his pedigree or if he is aceptable to a bunch of Ann Arbor "has beens" who's judgement is clouded with their personal opinions. GO find a quality coach because you're a top notch program... it will lead you back to relevancy much faster FWIW

most people don't even understand what it means
the actual meaning has little to do with the school itself

+ 1
It is Les' program.
And he still has the want for bigger accomplishments than the Cotton Bowl !!

This is obivously true since they cant get anyone who played there to come back and coach (Harbaugh - Miles)

Did he not play QB there? What does that make him? Furthermore apparently the meaning didnt evoke the heartstrings in him either...Hell the money wasnt even enough to get him there so if the two combined couldnt do it then it must be wayyy overrated in today's world.

And Miles is nothing more now than a former UM OL so my point EXACTLY

If harbaugh had taken the michigan job and been loyal to them from this point on he would have been forgiven and welcomed home with arms open wide..
Everyone said Rich wasn't a michigan man but I think the class he showed with fans and media out to get him from day one showed the kind of guy he really is.. its also very unknown but he did a lot of very nice things for a lot of kids and people around Ann Arbor.. Rich will have my support wherever he lands

The whole term came about when the UM Basketball coach accepted a job at ANOTHER school, but wanted to coach UM through the NCAA tournament.
Bo said "No! UM will be coached by a Michigan man" (meaning, one that was NOT employed by someone else.
He then appointed Fisher to coach through the tournament. Fisher had NO previous ties to UM (other than being an assistant on that current staff)
BTW, they won the championship.
So, the term means one that is committed to UM and not agreed to leave to coach another program....not someone that comes FROM UM, etc.

You could do a lot worse than emulating Bo.. or a guy that wants to be like him.

This is it... A Michigan man is someone who wants to be at Michigan, Hoke for better or worse is a Michigan man its the ultimate goal of his career and there is no place he would rather be. I thought Les was too and perhaps he is.. Les might be staying because of family etc and if these things weren't involved he might have taken the job.
