I'm a Michigan State University alum and big fan ... I know that 99% of you view Mel Tucker as NOT a viable option for the LSU job. Whether or not he is/was under consideration, I don't know, I'll leave that to your "insiders" ... but just wanted to let you know that word is getting out that Mel is going to be signing an extension and his salary will be increased to between $6.8 and $7.8 million/year. No word yet on what the buyout would be.

I have no idea if Tucker is a candidate for the LSU job, but coaching extensions are barely worth the paper they are written on, so if LSU wanted to pursue Tucker, that extension would hardly be a barrier for them to cross to do so

You might want to run from this place. Claims without sauces get shot down rather quickly

MSU will regret that.

Thanks! It's always fun to read the message boards of schools going through a coaching search. This one obviously had my attention even more, given Tucker being amongst the candidates.

You've just made a lot of people on this board happy if true.

If the buyout is $30M (for the next two years), I think that would be a barrier.

BTW, not saying that's the buyout - that's unknown as of now.

No he won't ... and I'm not saying that as "MSU Fan boy". Mel has moved around a ton and I think he wants to settle in one place for at least a few years. His son is in high school...his wife graduated from MSU...and he completely flipped the script and trajectory of MSU program in less than two seasons.

I don't think you guys realize what a miracle it is that he has the team at 8-1. He has 41 new players on the team this year. He worked magic with the portal. He's barely gotten going and already, has curb-stomped Harbaugh and Michigan twice. He has a Top 15 recruiting class coming in, a new practice facility built to his specifications, and an Athletic Director he's very close with.

So yes, the LSU job is Top 10 (maybe Top 5). But I think Tucker realizes he has the opportunity to do something legendary at MSU, whereas at LSU, even if he won a National Championship, I seriously doubt it would go down in history as legendary. But the main reason I think Tucker would turn down LSU (IF he were ever offered) is because I suspect his next job won't be at one of the elite college programs - I think it will be in the NFL. I think he has eyes on the NFL - maybe in the next few years.

Yes he really will. It’s already been leaked by several insiders that the job isn’t getting beyond Tucker.
