When you look at all of Scott Woodward’s hires there is only one guy that fits all the criteria. I admit it makes no sense for him to leave his present position other than he wants to get back to shaping young men’s lives. Every other candidate that has the character and ability to build a long term dynasty is either too old or has crashed and burned recently. The one guy that has the ability, track record ,character, still young enough to build a dynasty and has gotten the NFL thing out of his system is: Matt Rhule.

During his tenure at Baylor, Rhule's teams never defeated a ranked team.......

A 3 year tenure at Baylor that followed a rape scandal where every coach and support staff member was fired.

Aranda followed a Rhule 11-1 regular season with a 2-7 season.

Maybe a little context, he took that dumpster fire Baylor to 11 wins in 2019. In that season he lost to Oklahoma twice in close games (lost by 3 during the season, then in OT in big 12 champ) and they did beat Texas handily who finished the season ranked 25. So it took him two years to get that product at Baylor

I just think this take is lazy when you consider where he started just two years before going 1-11

I would like the Rhule hire. The more I have thought about it, if he is founding out like Saban did that NFL wasn't his calling, he would stay put and build a dynasty at a college. He not be tempted by the NFL carrot.

Because Rhule left a depleted roster. Much of the 11-1 team departed similar to 2019 LSU, but without the recruiting classes. Add in the Covid situation, late hire and you get 2-7.

Baylor recruiting ranked 41, 29, 35 and 50 nationally from 2017-20 during Rhule's tenure.

Rhule got what he could out of Briles' remaining recruits and bounced. He knew what was left of the roster for 2020.

Aranda stepped in just before 2020 signing day. [Edited: earlier recruiting cycle ranking posted. Now, he's on par with two of Rhule's classes at this stage of the cycle.] And a stable program with a 6-1 record. That's impressive for what he walked into in 2020 and a first time HC.

Rhule's Coaching Stats:

NFL: 8–15 (.348)
NCAA: 47–43 (.522)
Bowls: 1–2 (.333)

Now, will a full recruiting cycle, has a top-15 2022 recruiting ranking, so far.
247 ranked 33rd Quit twisting shite to boost your argument. He’s got a good class for it being Baylor, but I guess top 35 just doesn’t pop the same as top 15

This is a horrendous and ridiculous opinion. Do you know what Rhule was left with at Baylor? You act like the recruiting class he had coming in in 2017 after replacing an interim coach where no recruit wanted to go and play was some type of advantage for Rhule. The “talent” Briles left went a whopping 1-11 his first year. His track record is taking mediocre (Baylor) to poor (temple) to relevant and very good football teams. The nfl isn’t for everyone and it wasn’t cutout for the greatest college football coach of all time. Rhule should legit be possibly the top candidate Woodward has. He is that type of coach. Showing his overall records but not showing his progress at each school shows how you’re trying to spin this. The fact that Aranda had that record after Baylor played in the big 12 championship is def a mark against Aranda. Covid is possibly a reason but lack of talent wasn’t a reason.

Not twisting. Just misqoted from an older article. Try again.

And with his addition, the Bears are now ranked in the Top 15 in the country for 2022 recruiting classes, according to 247Sports’ rankings. Baylor has 16 commitments already for its next class, and is also ranked No. 3 in the Big 12 Conference, behind Oklahoma and Texas.
