You have like 10 threads whining about your son's bad grades not being fair. Maybe worry about that mouth breather.

Wow. Blasting a guy for making a mistake then turning his life around and accomplishing more than you ever will. HB has more football knowledge than you or anyone else on this board for that matter. Just because you are an absolute failure at life doesn’t mean you should project your failures onto others.

That was a decade ago and more now. People change. Do you make better decisions now than you did ten years ago? Probably. The proof is in the pudding as to how he has turned his life around.

That maybe true, and you’re probably an a-hole, but there’s something about the badger that’s not up for debate. The Mfr’ knows football!! Particularly, defense!! You can tell that by his play, and the fact that his teammates nicknamed him “Landlord.”

He is a solid B+ recruiter

He wasn't at UK. He's a great coach but not a good recruiter. Heard part of the reason he left for the NFL was because he didn't like recruiting. Don't know how true that is but thats whwt we heard.

But LSU is easier to recruit at then UK.

Maybe Kelly told him others on the staff would be doing the majority of the recruiting if that's true. Definitely seems weird he would come back to college, especially to a place like LSU where the expectations are high, if he really hated recruiting. Thanks for the feedback though.

Everything I am reading seems to agree with your stance that his recruiting isn't amazing but he's a great technical coach. It worked out for Aranda.

When he left UK it was said he didn’t like recruiting, that was never confirmed though. But he’s so damn good at coaching and developing players, add that with the talent at LSU and it’s a good combo. We had a top 10 defense under him with mainly 3 stars.

Hell yeah! Glad we got him. Do you know if he was doing a lot of recruiting while at Kentucky, or was his defensive staff doing the majority of it for him?

Chavis didn’t like recruiting and we had great defenses. Aranda wasn’t big on recruiting and we had really good defenses. The recruiting aspect is a little over emphasized. Developing players and implementing a great scheme are more important to me.

I’m not 100% sure how much he recruited. I know he recruited Josh Allen(who was a 2/3 star on most services and his only other offer was from Old Dominion I believe) but he’s really good at getting the most out of his players.

I'm all in with the guy. Since all the blown smoke has cleared it does sound like he's less than a B+ recruiter though.

To be fair, the heavy lifting in recruiting is usually done by position coaches and the head coach. The coordinators do a bit as well, but they usually focus on a couple of key targets and allow their scheme and saturday performance do the recruiting for their side of the ball.

The coordinators simply have too much on their plates to devote as much time as the rest of the assistant coaches to recruiting. There are always exceptions, but at most programs it'll be position coaches that do the most recruiting.
