I think Texas makes an underwhelming hire.
What in their history shows they are gonna go get a huge name?
Nothing.

It is amazing how badly the Bammers want Gene Chizik to go to Texas. It really is.
Lots of fear.
EDIT: I meant, Gus Malzahn.
Brain cramp.

That's only because if Saban leaves, Bama will surely hire Chizik.

Correct. Although he isn't coaching at the moment, I'm still afraid of the fact that he doesn't seem to have teeth. If we can get him the frick out of here, I'd rest a lot easier.

lol...you can have Chizik all you want.

Thinking about starting a thread.
Mack Brown was their biggest coaching hire, and even then, he didn't even win a conference championship while at UNC.
Prior to that they hired Mackovic from Illinois, who went 8-4 and 6-5 in his last two seasons.
David McWilliams was hired away from Texas Tech after coaching one 7-4 season. No other HC experience.
Fred Akers coached two years at Wyoming, compiling a 10-13 record before being scooped up by Texas. No other HC experience.
Even DKR only had three seasons of HC experience at Mississippi State and Washington before taking over, where he went 17-13 combined.
NONE of these were major coaching steals.

What are his coaching hire experiences?
Has he even handled this before? He was in the NBA, NFL, and only at Arizona State a year. He seems to have no experience here.
If it was as simple as, he's gonna hire a big name, then it would have been done.

I've never seen a board with more Bama posters in my life. Can we just merge this with the Bama board until Texas hires Saban?

Why does it matter if I post on the coaching changes board?
I post on the MSB and the M/TV board as well. I enjoy TigerDroppings and if Chicken didn't want us here, he would ban us.

this.. bamafan is one of the good ones, don't bash him
we're actually having a good discussion...
here's a good writeup on patterson
quote:
Steve Patterson on the other hand graduated from UT with both his undergrad degree and law degree. He went directly to work for the Houston Rockets after graduating law school in 1985 and became the GM of the Rockets in 1989. He was responsible for architecting the roster that went on to win back to back NBA championships. He was then President of the Houston Aeros from 1994-1997 where he was named the IHL's Executive of the Year in 1995. From 1997-2003 he was the SVP and Chief Development Officer for the Houston Texans responsible for landing the franchise award from the NFL and getting Reliant Stadium built. From 2003 to 2007 he was the GM of the Portland Trail Blazers where he was responsible for drafting Lamarcus Aldridge and Brandon Roy. From 2007-2012 he was the Chief Operating Officer of Arizona State Athletics responsible for all capital construction projects, operations of facilities, and business operations. From 2012-2013 he was the Arizona State Athletic Director where he dramatically reshaped the Athletic Department removing 100+ employees streamlining the organization.

It'll be interesting to see how it plays out with him.
I think this is a different situation than he has handled before. Though his NFL experience might play well with any NFL targets.

agreed, if anything, i see him turning the athletic dept on its head.. they plan on getting rid of women's ath director and having him do both as well.. we'll see!
also.. Garrett Gray, Texas Commit, was told by texas they would have a new coach by the bowl game.
