I don't doubt that somewhere in there is the kernel of truth that he's had some Real Estate stuff go sour on him in the last few years. Who hasn't that is in that game?
What I don't get is the idea that he'd be personally liable for 40 million dollars or whatever it is.

No way he is telling guys like Fornette and Brown - big LSU leans, that he is going to Texas. Let's say there is a deal in place - as of this hour Mack is still the coach. And until that hat drops, Nick is the coach of Alabama. So he's hedging his bets by continuing to recruit alabama just in case the promises he's been made go up in smoke.
