but regardless, if UA found out he was out recruiting for UT, or doing in-person contract negotiations while still under contract, I don't think they'd be too happy about it and would probably attempt to recoup some damages.

I get the point of what people are saying about him recruiting. But it would be near impossible to prove he wasn't "doing his job", even if he was sitting at home in Tuscaloosa for the next three weeks. He could easily say "I was spending time in the film room."
And I doubt UA would want to drag out a legal battle in the courts over this if he does leave. That would undermine anything the next coach would be trying to accomplish.
