Do they ever get anything right. Hell, Major was like a non factor in this search
The days of actual true reporting are gone. You used to have to get info from a credible source, have that backed up, have a conversation with the school president and actually see the signed document THEN you reported it.
Now, everybody has a "source", somebody "close to the program". Well, that source may be a Board member who wants this or that to happen. There are other board members who may not feel the same though.
These stupid bloggers that just throw shite out there. Clay Travis Jan 2016 "Saban will be in Cleveland next year". Based on what? Did you talk to Saban... or some hack in Cleveland who HOPES it happens. AND there are no repercussions for reporting bullshite.
We listen to this stuff, no we listen to what we want to listen to. even though we know it's probably bullshhite.
I wouldn't be surprised if this Applewhite thing didn't happen. I will wait for the University president or AD to actually make a statement vs some bullshite on twitter.
Truth is, none of us know jackshite. The men making the decision do but that is it. Then the hacks will say "it fell through" to cover their arses when they never had any substantial evidence it would happen to begin with.

Agree. They just report whatever shite will get attention then come back with "well ya know it's a fluid situation." Of course it is, so how about not reporting stuff like it's fact until you're certain

Because everyone wants to be the person to break the story. It gives them "credibility" if they are correct and rarely are there any repercussions if they are incorrect. They love reporting rumors on twitter for clicks and then say "I'm just doing my job" when there is backlash.
Edit: If they just reported, "You know, the AD/university is playing this one close the vest. There are rumors but we don't report rumors that are unsubstantiated," I would actually have a lot of respect for the pundits bc at least they are telling the truth.

They don't have to. They get some credit if they are right. Everyone just forgets and there aren't any repercussions if they are wrong. They get the clicks either way. This is the state of sports, and pretty much all journalism, today. Pretty sad.

Great thread, I completely agree. The media is laughable these days.

Most of it is these administrations or parties involved leaking the info to gauge the reaction, or force someone's hand.
Yesterday there were reports of a Houston not being sure about how people would react to the Kiffin hire....Houston might have leaked hiring Kiffin themselves
