So what's the reaction if TN falls to hiring Cutcliffe and he brings on Manning as part of an administrative role to help with football operations and to have him around the program?

Cutcliffe is beloved by UT fans. That said, he'd be seen as a good hire but a stop-gap/temporary hire. A failure by the AD because he didn't hire a big fish but not a hire folks would be terribly upset with.
It would reflect badly on the AD, imo, while still being an ok hire.

Hyams is a mouthpiece for the AD. He says whatever they tell him without any real digging. In regular times he's late but accurate but when it comes to searches he's often used by the AD to put out misinformation. Hubbs is also talking Mullen and he's in a similar situation with the AD.
They could be right but they aren't ones I really trust when it comes to a search given how secretive Currie is.

It wouldn't surprise me if the AD is trolling the shite out of Hubbs because of how he fricked up the Gundy hire in 2012.
And Hyams has been wrong on every coaching search we've had since Fulmer was here. Remember.....
