When people do that, the goal is typically to acquire answers to the question.

Seems like you want the point to be the Rooney rule doesn't work.
Rather than go about this exercise of the socratic method, wouldn't it just be easier to state what you think?

I'm not sure they knew each other, and it'd seem to me that Cowher would sooner recommend Whis or Grimm or no one at all.

Do you have a goal in mind for this thread, some type of statement?
Rather than play hide the ball why not just state your opinion on the subject?

So you are saying that Tomlin was NOT a result of the Rooney Rule, but because the owner wanted to interview minority coaches?
hmmm...no...pretty sure I'm saying that the pressue of having the rule named after him affected the process.
Had there been no Rooney rule, maybe Rooney doesn't feel the need to do as he did.

How about instead of trying to ascertain my motives and opinions, you answer the question?

That makes Tomlin's interview outside of the Rooney Rule, does it not?

I've heard repeatedly that Tomlin wasn't even on the Steelers top candidates list.
They brought him in for an interview to comply with the Rooney rule and were so blown away by his interview they nearly gave him the job on the spot.

How about this I don't know the answer, do you?
Why don't you answer the question?

Why don't you answer the question?
One thing Sesame Street taught me was that questions are great ways of finding out things.
I think Big Bird said that. . .

Really so you don't think him being the guy who pushed this rule down other owners throats didn't make him go "hmmm maybe I better do more than just a token interview, maybe I need to put on a good face for this thing"

So far we have, possibly, Lovie Smith.

The way you have talked about everyone who has been listed so far makes think your full of shite.

That seems to be personal choice, not force.

it is entirely impossible to determine if a coach was hired because of the Rooney rule! Just because a team hired a black coach doesn't mean he got the job because of the rule...or that he didn't! Unless the team came out and said i had no interest in this black guy at all i only brought him in for the interview because i was legally bound...but hey he won the job! You will never know who was given the chance on his record and experience and who was just interviewed based on legality! Personally i don't think the rule works. If a team has no interest in you but brings you for legality reasons and then suddenly finds you to be the guy, it just doesn't fit.
