Is it time to discuss a cap on salaries? I mean this is crazy
1.5 not long ago was crazy money for a HC...now assistant coaches making this much money....
and now A$M has doubled down and offered north of 3 million to steal Aranda.
We should just bail on this game...fold the cards....this isn't good for college football...
LSU football is top 7 revenue type program but the university is struggling with funds
so A$M has the upper hand here...
it sucks but it's the darn truth. They just spent 500 Million on their facilities. That's big money
hard to blame O when he's making half of what many HC coaches are making so we can pay the staff top dollar, yet other teams are coming in and willing to offer the highest paid DC in America double!!! ? Time to pump the brakes
College football will soon have a correction, I think the NCAA is going to have to step in and try slow down or control the market for coaches by a salary cap...
if they don't too many universities are going to get hurt with this arms race controlled by big boosters who love their football..
thoughts?

Its a ridiculous amount of money but A&M puts their money where their mouth is
They will do what it takes to be the best, can't help but respect that
LSU is concerned with shopping from dollar general

what does this have to do with A$M doubling the highest paid DC in the country?

A&m has us crushed in money, but more importantly, they are willing to do what it takes to win.

a 5 million dollar head coach would have known what to do. No coordinators make those decisions at crunch time.

We shouldn't be talking about capping salaries, we should be talking about holding people accountable for their actions, as happens in the private sector. Alleva making indefensible hires and doling out HORRIBLE contracts should result in termination.
The only option is move to non-guaranteed contracts, but then that would just be countered by other schools who would offer guaranteed contracts. With respect to the football team, the fiscally responsible course of action would have been to fire Miles after 2015, clean house, and bring in an entirely new staff. Instead, they piece-mealed and tried to make do with what they had and maybe one or two new hires, which has been an abject failure and in the end costed more than starting anew would have in the first place.

We already tried to low ball for a HC. How’s that working out.

I know I am conflicted..
but my thinking is this, LSU is a public school, not a dang NFL franchise chasing the almighty dollar and ratings
agents like Sexton have too much influence....
Heck to AD's even get to have a real interview anymore?

Can we just take a loan out from A&M and buy Coach O and Alleva out and start over?
Posted on 1/3/18 at 4:27 pm to ApexTiger
We were fine with all of this when we were the ones stealing Aranda from Wisconsin who couldn’t pony up,the cash
..or when we paid more for Will Wade than VCU could match
..or Canada
Etc

Everybody is a conservative until it doesn’t fit their own agenda. Why the frick would any red blooded American want a salary cap on anything? You should be paid for your service whatever the market deems appropriate.

Sir, I have my own business, I get it.
A university and a business are two different deals at least they are supposed to be.

Down vote after reading this.

Then why do HS coaches get paid 43k a year and College assistants at the lowest tier make at least 200k a year?
oh different market, different pay huh?
my point is the market doesn't make sense anymore, it's passing up the NFL pay...and only a few universities can chop wood at this level...
and because they can, they will...which will allow guys like Sexton to push the entire market for DC's up another million in the next 3 years
you watch...
fine, get PAID! but I don't think this ends well, I really don't
you think Saban should 20 million after he beat UGA for 6th title? Then guys that are half as good get paid 10 a year?
square that one for me
at some point you have to say, what the hell are we doing?
it's time to check the agents...

what I mean is, he isn't being overpaid, and took that piece so we could pay top dollar for OC and DC...
Sumlin made almost a million per more than Miles and Miles had twice the resume
FACT!
O wanted the job, we couldn't get anyone else after Jimbo and Herman ships sailed.. You want Fedora at 5 million after this past season at UNC?
At least O wanted the dang job... I wanted Miles fired after 2015 and wanted Jimbo all along, my post history is clear on who I wanted...I never thought we should hire our DL coach...but we did
all we can do now is support O until it's not justified, heck 9-4 isn't that bad considering a lot of factors such as roster, depth, injuries schedule and new OC...average QB

Tader thinks that the more you make, the less your buyout from the university should be. I dont mind paying you for performance, but when its 4th and inches and you a 1st rounder on the sideline looking at you, and you still shite on his face by trying to kick it thru, you should fired before making it to the tunnel
