Riley sucks at big games and even mediocre games so this shouldn’t be a concern of anyone.

Not sure why people are so hung up on how long OU is going to be in it. This has happened before where coaches were announced to be fired or to be taking a new position with another school but the season still had to play out.
Most of the time, if a sitting coach is going to move to another team or take another job, they finish the regular season and then an interim takes their place for any postseason activities, like bowl games.
The playoffs are a different kind of monkey wrench, for sure, but I'm positive that at the timeline this was all done (back when OU was still undefeated and likely headed toward CFP participation), Riley and Woodward worked out how they wanted to handle all those options.
It's not like either side was going to be surprised at the end if OU made it into the playoffs. I think Riley has also given the OU AD advance notice of his plans so that they can have a solid plan in place.
Relax, we'll have our guy soon enough. I'm extremely confident it's Riley based on what we've seen over the past month. Let's just enjoy the ride :)

On Sunday, 11/28, if OU is out of the Big 12 CG, then LR is our coach.
Or if OU is in the Big 12 CG, then we wait until
Sunday, 12/5, OU is either:
Out of the CFP and LR is our coach
Or
OU is in the CFP and we hire option 2.
I believe SW already has discussed this with option 2 and that person has agreed to that scenario.
LR is not going to go to the CFP with the potential to win an NC and then leave OU.
SW is also not going to be wait until late January to find out.

Come on man. Let's not pretend that OU has a realistic shot this year.

quote:All of this. Scott Woodward likely starting putting the pieces in place last year, when he agreed to give Coach O one final shot at hiring coordinators to fix the problem. He's that good. That's why he was such a huge pickup for LSU at Athletics Director.

And if anything, the reason that Riley is the prime candidate is because OU does have a shot at the playoffs. That's the whole point. Riley always has Oklahoma in position to make a run, regardless of an unforeseen loss during the season or not. That's what we want at LSU too. OU is not going to win it all this year. But at least they are in position to having a few lucky breaks for them and a few unlucky breaks for other teams.
It might be unprecedented, but I can give 12 million reasons why Riley would make the move. We're not talking about a little raise. We're talking about almost doubling what he makes now. And that's 12 million a year, not 12 million over a few years.
I get the impression that Oklahoma fans think he should stay just because. And if he stays, they're not gonna match the offer because Riley is that kind of guy. In other words, he's a unicorn.

Your scenario has a problem
You can’t have 13-0 Georgia AND 12-1 Bama
You can’t have 13-0 Georgia AND 12-1 Bama

12-1 or 13-0 Georgia is in.
12-1 OSU or Michigan is in.
13-0 Cincinnati is in (IMO)
12-1 Bama is in.
If a 12-1 Big 12 champ in that scenario they’re out. They need a little chaos.
The best scenario to keep Oklahoma out is if Bama beats Georgia.
Otherwise, it's looking like Oklahoma controls their own destiny.
These teams would be in:
Georgia
Ohio St/Michigan winner
Cincinnati
And you're looking at these 2 teams for the 4th spot:
Oklahoma 12-1
ND 11-1
