I swear the continuing saga of Miles to Michigan is the biggest non-story story in history. It has continuously been proven to have no basis, but it won't go away. Who is to blame? Media and Michigan alums.

I think Les will be AD at Michigan one day, but will never coach there. Just my opinion.

"I was helping with the coaching search." You really think he spoke to the University President for that. I'm not saying he's leaving but come on people.

I would think they called to a) guage his interest and was told no, so then the conversation turned to prospects, or b) to apologize for the media disaster which Michigan helped to create through its clumsy efforts to that point and the conversation turned to prospects, and then mutual well-wishes.

I could see that Les would speak to the Michigan people as a matter of courtesy and respect. Why should he burn a bridge with them and refuse to speak with them. Hell, I would think that if the President of any university called him he would speak to them as a matter of courtesy.

Back before I became Self-employed, a competitor called me and asked me to meet with him. I knew he was going to talk to me about a job. I was not interested in going to work for that company at that time, but I did agree to lunch with him and at the lunch told him I was not interested in switching jobs at that time. Maybe Les was doing the same thing. (Hopefully)

He didn't say "regular season", do you think he's just talking about next "bowl" season?

Unfortunately this is exactly what I thought as soon as I read this. There's no doubt he's coaching the BCS game, which technically is next year. So, he's still got Clintonesque wiggle room.

Please be serious. The man said next season, not next year. Yes, he will be coaching in the BCS game in 2008, but that is next year, not next season. If you want to play word games and semantics, do a better job. The BCS game is part of the 2007 season, not next season.

Thank you, Les. Now STFU media hacks.

Siebel and Ostrada on XM Espn were saying that you can't believe Les and he is still in consideration for MICH. Seriously, what does the man have to do, short of dying, to take his name out of the MIch searching hat? He does like hats..........

I just hope that this press release will make espn shut the frick up about this bs. doubt it will though

Well he could have just, oh I don't know, not talked the them. The ESPN would not have had a report!

LES, wait until UM has a coach before you talk to them and there will not be a need for these type statements.

So what does he do, refuse a telephone call from the President of UM? Of course he would talk to them if she called.

Great idea...
Maybe we could cut all the phone lines to the athletic building, lock Miles in his office and feed him through a slot in the door.

Wait...I forgot, he's the coach...Not the mascot!

I can't believe you're put this all on Miles...Unbelievable!
Wait...it's you...Never mind, I can believe it!

Well, you can't do that. I'm sure his office has windows and Michigan may use carrier pigeons

As I said on an earlier post...

quote:

I'm (somewhat) happy that this is the case but we should have realistic expectations. Any announcement by LM or Skip or anybody will be undone when the next Free Press article comes out saying that UM wants LM. The story will not "die" until Michigan hires a coach, and it will be revived when they lose their first game under that new coach.

Get used to this folks. I believe Les 100% when he says he is staying, but the story will not go away until Michigan hires a coach.

Can I ask a question? Why after all the crap that went on with Les and ESPN and the rumours and the press conference and the buzz around here (a seperate coaching changes board for example) Why after all this does he go and even mess with Michigan but wait theres more...HELP Mich with their coaching search? LES Stay your butt here, with YOUR TEAM and if your NOT THEIR Coach, LEAVE THEM ALONE? If my wife accused me of having an affair with some chick at work and then I get out of it by having this big heart to heart press conference with my wife and straighten it all out, IM DEFINITELY NOT NOT NOT going to take her to lunch 2 weeks later bc shes having a bad day or try to land her a new job, or help her move WHATEVER> This was stupid of the man.

I think you are confusing what Miles said as a social courtesy with some serious commitment to assist in the search. There was ONE telephone conversation. Miles politely said if I can help my alma mater (where he graduated, got his first coaching job, played football) I will be glad to do so. Do you actually think that Michigan will in any way involve Miles beyond the pleasantries exchanged in that single phone conversation?

Folks that are upset over Miles "offering to help" are taking this way too seriously and don't recognize it for what the whole episode represents. Miles was simply being considerate and respectful of an institution for which he had great affection. THAT'S IT. You need not read into his comments anything other than that.

If you want to make analogies, Michigan wouldn't be the girl friend or ex-wife. It would be his mother (get it "alma mater.") What child wouldn't offer to help his mother.

Other than wanting to believe Les, because he's our coach, one thing we've learned is that anything a coach says regarding rumors is subject to change quickly.
We'll only know the truth when Michigan hires someone, but personally, I don't give any substance to anything Les Miles is saying now. We know that he is doing what he has to do, whether he's planning on staying or going.

Truly SAD!

Thanks to the Nick Saban's and Bill Clinton's of the world...this is where some people now stand concerning the "meaning" of a mans word.

Honor and Character may be rare attributes in the world we live in...However, I don't think they're extinct.

Everyone's comments shouldn't require a debate and parsing of statements to determine what the meaning of "is", is!

I think Les is solid and his word is good as far as I'm concerned.

If others want to go through life trusting "NO ONE", that's their choice. I refuse to be that big of a cynic.

Sorry we are putting you guys through all this. I don't think that Miles was the top choice to begin with. He was the media's top choice, but Mich never pursued him with any vigor at all.

I do think that they wanted to speak with Les, and that was more than likely a courtesy thing for an accomplished ex-Michigan guy.

ESPN, the Det/AA media have no clue what is going on. Just like in the search for John Bielein. It makes them crazy, but Bill Martin is not talking, so they just keep lobbing bombs trying to get some reaction.

The Board of Regents just approved $230 million for upgrading the football facilities, including Michigan Stadium. That is major debt, but also huge new revenue potential. I believe they expect Bill Martin to come back with a coach to match that investment. Money, while not ulimited, should not be the issue.

Martin seems to be clearing the decks of all lesser candidates, providing evidence of a thorough search. But I think the real work will begin once the recruiting dark period begins.

And, by the way, Mich will be spending some time in FLA soon in close proximity to a midwest guy, who has won impressively everywhere he has been, including a NC, idolized BO, has had outs in contracts for the Mich job, thinks Mich is a prestigous job and about whom Lloyd has glowing praise.

We will have to wait and see!!!
