He won't say he's staying until:

A. He gets his raise or
B. Michigan announces its new coach

Coaches will tell recruits anything to get them

He probably has already responded with his answer through the search firm. He is in a yes pile or no pile and they are sorting through probably 3-5 candidates. I am guessing he has not spoken to anyone from the university in any official way at this point.

I would imagine even if they hire someone else Hacket will come talk to Les just like Brandon did because as a former michigan player / coach he deserves at least that much respect. He might even have told them if Harbaugh doesnt come I will or something along those lines who knows. Les is not going to say hey they offered me the job but I turned it down to embarrass his Alma mater is isnt going to happen. I would love to see Les in Ann Arbor but I would say its way less than 50-50 at this point.

This is the thinking of a child, but common enough.

How is that the thinking of a child? He loves Michigan, he has said several times that is the case. You have a great coach that is a good guy and has a lot of class.

Schools like Mich. don't fly into BR to chat Mich. football with the coach at LSU when they have no interest in the coach at LSU out of "respect". That wouldn't be "respect"...that would be game playing and too bad for you if your powers that be are that juvenile.

Who knows what coach Mich. gets, but Mich. has already approached Miles twice and it didn't work out either time. Why would they want to do it a 3rd time when he is now 61?

I don't see it, but shite happens all the time in sports.

He's not going to get a raise. He's not going to get an extension. He isn't negotiating for either one. LSU won't consider renegotiating his contract right now, and I don't think Les would ask them to.

If he goes, he goes, but LSU isn't going to throw more years or more money at him to keep him at LSU. I also don't think Miles will be anywhere but LSU next year.

If He goes, He goes. What can you do? Next week will probably tell the tale. I imagine Miles is probably the insurance policy...a negotiating bird in the hand.
Miles won't let Hackett and Hughes hang if the search bogs down.
