He is just playing everyone with the search. He is giving an impression that he is doing a thorough search. He already made up his mind on Brick. Well hiring an incompetent position coach is not a plan. The search shall continue next year again.

What's everyone's obsession with telling opinionated guesses like it's truth? Does fear/anger make it feel so real that you can't tell the difference anymore?

I don't want to be patient either, but how many of us have a choice?

While this would not suprise me one bit, there simply is no evidence for it.

I agree, except it's going to be BDP instead of Brick

Seriously, I hope for the program's sake, we get a strong, proven DC, but we all need to chill out until an announcement is made.

Almost everyone does it, but I am curious. I'm just not that personality type or something... It's aggravating.

It would be a lot better around here if more posters would follow this advice.

This is just stupid. Les may eventually promote Brick, and, yes, it may not be the ideal hire. However, that is not automatically a failure on Les or Alleva. There are personal matters to consider for any potential hire, including moving wife and kids which is no small thing. Colleges are also willing to match offers these days. So, LSU may be a "better job", but actually getting a DC to move for it is not easy if the money is equal.

Les has to go through his search for the best candidate out there that is willing to take the job. There is sometimes collateral damage in people using that process to get raises, but that's just part of the business.

Hiring a DC is no different than hiring a manager at any major corporation. The most qualified candidates are not always willing to move to your location. But, not getting the perceived "best candidates" in the market should not automatically be considered a failure. Sometimes, promoting and "coaching up" is better than taking a chance on someone that you have no history with.

Here's the real question: If no current DC is willing to move, who is a better position coach for DC than Brick?

It is the most believable scenario imo. Doesn't mean I like it.

Question: Assume Miles and Alleva aren't the dumbarses (* wink wink*) that most of us think, and that they ARE actively vetting a DC. Assuming that, who, realistically, is available that would benefit us the best? Every name that's been thrown out so far is a no go, so is there anyone out there?

PacWilly- if promote from within who will do the coaching up? Surly not Les! I dont't believe these coaches are turning down the LSU DC position because they don't want to move their families. I don't know why, however I'm willing to bet the departure of Chavis "his reason" is why? I believe that 2015 is going to define Miles. His future rides on this hire and their results.

I agree that there is concern over who would do the "coaching up". I am certainly concerned over that too. I don't believe coaches are turning down LSU over lack of offense. All they have to do is look to last year and see that Cam can produce offense. And, by the way, we just played for a NC only 3 years ago after winning one 7 years ago. There is a lot of cred that goes along with that. I believe they are turning down LSU because they can stay at their current school and make the same money after showing interest in LSU.

Yes, 2015 will be a big year in the evaluation of Les Miles' future at LSU. If the DC fails next year with all that talent and the QB situation does not get better, Les' seat will be very hot, and it should be.
