"brooks has UK at a much higher level"
Well thats debatable. He has been at UK a lot longer than Mumme was first off. Second off he's a better recruiter obviously, and 3rd he still hasen't taken UK to a New Year's Day Bowl game which Mumme did when he took UK to the Outback Bowl. Nothing to argue about that Rich Brooks is a much better head coach than Hal Mumme but that has nothing to do with if he is a good coach or not. Some guys are better at being Coordinators and some are better at being Head Coaches. Mumme would be the guy you could put in the category of better as an OC.

How much of that offense was Mumme's and how much came from his OC's? Leech was his OC @ Valdosta State and @ UK in '97 and '98 and then Tony Franklin was his OC @ UK in 2000.

Well much of it came from Mumme. But Leach helped him by adding some of his stuff and they put the 12 concepts together and just went from there. They were both together at Iowa Wesleyan as well. When Mumme got the job at UK in 1997 he took Leach with him and hired Tony Franklin and they were the 3 brain trusts behind what would come to be at UK and what has happened since then across the country with the offense.
Kentucky shattered a bunch of SEC records in the 4 years they were there and they still hold quiet a few SEC records. I know they are 2nd all time in SEC history for most yards in a single game with 801 yards against Louisville in 1998, they passed for 571 yards and ran for 230.
They rank 3rd all time in SEC history for Most yards in a season with 5,876 from their 98 squad and the Top 2 Offenses in SEC history are Spurrier's 95 & 96 offensive units.

Has any team that runs this offense won a National Championship?

it would be a great system but you gotta sell out to it. i would love LSU to run some more of the passing concepts but in the SEC and on any level to win you have to be able to get under center and run the ball. Play action is also key. I run the "system" too but i think on even the HS level you gotta have more than what I've seen Mumme do at NMST and Kentucky

OU ran the spread in 2000

Well he did have Tim Couch running that offense. Not like he did it with no talent.

If the qb is off on that day, you lose. No thanks.

I agree that there had to be more than what you have seen Mumme use. Thats what I'm telling you. There is a ton of stuff running and throwing the football you can do not just out of the Gun and spreading but out of traditional formations like the I, Off Set I, split backs, single back, Double Tights, I-Wing, etc. You can run all the concepts plus all your running stuff under center or in the gun it's the same plays just running it different ways. I'm very multiple in the system and use a lot of formations and motions to set up mismatches. And even past that I still added my own personal touch to it by adding Wildcat and things I like to do to be able to be even more multiple. Your actually running the same stuff but just out of so many different sets and ways where a defense can't zero in on what your doing.

No but it's kind've only been around for a few years and has just now been catching fire the last few years as more and more programs are having success with it. There are a lot of teams that have implemented some concepts from the "System" like your hurry up game and No huddle type stuff. OU showed last year when you have great athletes and a great QB how nasty a no huddle, fast paced offense could do. They broke many national offensive records and got to the national championship game. Texas is using more fast paced facets to their offense because Mack has seen that it's working.
But lets see teams that spread the field and have won National championships by throwing first and passing second would be BYU, Florida State, Florida, Miami, Texas, Oklahoma just right off the top of my head.

variations of the spread, namely the run and shoot, have been around for a long, long time
the leach spread has been used in BCS football for over 10 years
it's not new

1. overrated conference. 1 game schedule
2. they ran up the score whenever possible

define "spread the field" b/c you added florida, who either wasn't a spread team (1996), or didn't pass first (2006/2008)
when did FSU run the spread? they're pretty much exclusive to the pro-style
Miami adopted the spread option this year. they haven't won a national title with a spread or spread option
Texas won it all with a spread option and a ton of running, not passing

I am all for throwing it 40 times a game, we do thta where i coach at. But we also get under center and run power, counter, ect. I think we need a pro scheme like the houston texans/broncos of that shanahan days. Zone blocking schemes with PA and yyou could use some "air raid" passing stuff if it fit in. Air Raid alone not strong enough in the SEC
