Laugh but wasn't Hal Mumme an offensive guru

I adore the Air Raid.

Hal Mumme was the most interesting thing to happen to the SEC, other than the Ball Coach, in a long time.

The thing about his offense is that it really isn't that complex

it's just really hard to stop if you execute it well.

Yeah Mumme would come with some baggage I think, but he would still do quite well in my opinion. The offense that’s currently being run at Middle Tenn State, Texas Tech, Houston, Troy, Tulsa, Arizona, Stephen F Austin, etc is the same exact offense that Mumme runs. It's the ole "Air Raid" offense that Mumme created and then He, Mike Leach and Tony Franklin put it together into a systematic, detailed with a fine comb system that is exploding across the country and having huge success not only in major college football but is winning state championships across the country in high schools and winning national championships in college football at Division 1-AA, Division II, Division III & NAIA.

Louisiana schools that are using it with great success off the top of my head are; Evangel committed to it last year, Belle Chase started doing it last year and they won the championship in 4-A. Louisiana College committed to it last year and have broken school records each year and have had back to back winning seasons. LC has gone 7-3 the last 2 years after not having a winning season since the 60’s. LC also just finished 6-2 in their conference which is like the SEC of Division III football.
It’s a great system that opens up anything you want to do running and throwing the football and never limits you or handcuffs you. If LSU ever committed to it with someone like Dana Holgerson running the show with the sick skill guys we have at LSU it would be just flat out sick.

Chris Hatcher runs it at..Valdosta State? I can't remember exactly but he wins a lot.

Hell, even Norm Chow has a lot of Air Raid-esque stuff in his offense. It's a hell of a system but it gets downplayed as a gimmick because of how Mumme's career turned out, imo.

The mesh route is absolute perfection lol

Well it's actually 12 concepts with built in read progression through each concept. But once you start adding in the tags or changing one route here and there the passing game can open up and become just sick. It's the type of offense you can use with any personal group and skill set and any formation you want to use it's not just a 5 Wide and chunk type of offense. There is so many variables to it that make it the best offense out there to run in my opinion and I have seen every offense you can see and I think it's the most organized and detailed system I have ever seen. The thing that makes it so special is that it's so simple at it's core and foundation.

Yeah God knows he had some really world changing athletes at the skill positions to work with while at UK thats for sure.

You may see them use the option out of the spread which is part of the system but those coaches and OC's at the schools I listed do run the same system. I know because I run the same system and we all know who is in the system and who runs it.
