Koenning or Chavis as DC?????

OK I've done some research and this is what I can conclude.
Chavis is an excellent DC, but doesnt always make second half adjustments. He coaches players well but may not have the "passion" that tiger fans want and need from a DC. He tends to bring one scheme to a game. If the offense makes an adjustment, history dictates he doesn't. Not sold on this guy.

Koenning seems better in my eyes. He's DB coach #1. He has top rated defenses nationally. But this is about all I can find on him. Does he have the "passion" we need from a DC? WHat schemes does he run and is he aggressive?
Word of mouth has Coach O coming over as DL/Recruiting Coordinator coach. Not confirmed but rumors. No question he has the "passion."

Thanks i typically read the rants here. But im trying to find out some information on this guy. If im reading the web right it looks like Chavis will end up at Clemson, Koenning to LSU, Coach O to LSU. With this said it may wind up being the best fit overall. Would love to see Tubs as DC. He would do it just to piss off AU boosters.

Now i do like Tenuta. He has alot of passion and is very aggressive, but Miles had the chance last year to get him and didn't. Never understood why. So I dont see that as posible. Would be happy and very surprised if it did work out for us to get him as DC

Yea, thats what i heard also. But come on, he has skills. Very good resume. Cant tell you how many times i've ran my mouth. Ive paid for some of the mistakes, but everybody makes them. If thats his only flaw. HMmmmmmm???????????. May be worth it in the long run.

tenuta apparently has burned some bridges. gets good results, but nobody but the now sucking charlie weis gives him a chance. shouldn't we learn that lockerroom chemistry is VERY important to a championship team.

Everything I have heard is that Koenning runs a very complex and agressive defense.. he is described as determined and fiery on the practice field but from what I understand as long as no one makes a bonehead play he typically keeps his cool on the sidelines.
Here is an quote from an old article from 2005 I found regaurding his sideline demeanor.
"I like to be calm and laid back when I'm on the field," stated Koenning. "Many times, players are on such an emotional roller coaster, it helps to be even-keeled. But at this point and time, there needs to be a hammer. If I have to be that hammer, which I don't like, I will. But with that hammer, you have to be there to hug as well."
Senior cornerback Tye Hill has seen both the hammer and hug-coaching style displayed by Koenning. The Saint George, SC native has enjoyed the experience.
"He does yell and scream, but he also is the first guy to slap you on the back when you do something well," said Hill. "Coach Koenning is what a player makes him. One of the things I really like about him is that he will not only tell you what you did wrong, but how to correct it."
Supposedly the differences between Koening and the new coach were over his agressivness and the extreme complexity of his scheme.

Either would be a solid choice, but the more I read about Koenning, the more I tend to lean towards him. Everything I've learned so far, he seems like he'd be a great fit here at LSU.

Now thats good information. How about defensive packages? Formations? Defensive Philosophy? Its looking like he may be the best canadite out their. But ive also heard that he has bad press packages and his DB's play to far off the recievers. Do you think that may be because of the talent level that drives his past decisions?

Actually the word out of Clemson is that he and Dabo disagreed because Koenning was too agressive on defense and had very complex schemes ... I'm no defensive expert, but that sounds a lot like a former coach of ours.
I'll take over-agressive and a complex defensive schemes ... sounds good to me! I'd much rather a coach over-coach than under-coach every day of the week!

If that's true, then there may be a few bumps in the road if he comes here.
Our players have a pretty low football IQ based on the simplicity of the defense we've been running.

With that said. Do we have the people to execute a complicated scheme. Aggressive yes. Complicated I don't know. I know you have to be smart and a great student to be a part of the Wizards offense and succeed. Do we have the same type of athletes on defense? We know they are talented and have the capabilites but what about the head on top of their shoulders.

Clemson has traditionally had some high IQ MENSA types on their defense. I think that is why he has worked out so well there.

I think your right. I know the Offense can be complicated at times with the wiz. That is probably why Hatch has been able to get a leg up on the rest of the QB's. Of course he also has had more time in the offense. time will tell on that subject. But enough offense. I think that most of the players can probably do fine in his defense. More than anything i see fundementals on defense not being tended too like they should. How many high tackles has everyone seen this year? Its alot more than i want to count. I understand the arguement of stripping the ball and gang tackling, but their is a time and place. Opinion only.

Is Koenning someone who is eventually looking to make it as an HC at some point? What I love about Chavis is that he is happy being a DC. He is GREAT at what he does and he will give us experience and longevity at the position. I'd rather that then a dude like Pelini/Fisher/Muschamp etc, that is an excellent coach but won't be around for that long.
