Austin seems like a baby who gets home sick after he moves. He left for USC and came back very soon after. It was weird that this had been in the works for a long time without the football coach in place (or even the current AD). Why did he "know" any coach hired would want him having a hand in his program?

Not coming back. Not an option.

From what I'm hearing, we assumed he was gonna have the same role that he did at LSU, apparently he wanted a role that was closer to assistant AD. Pruitt didn't want him on staff to be his boss. And I completely understand where Pruitt is coming from here.
Why this wasn't communicated before he left LSU is beyond me. Or maybe it was and either Fulmer or Pruitt didn't feel comfortable with the deal.
Either Thomas changes his expectations, or Tennessee becomes a little more flexible with regard to his role, or this deal likely won't happen.
As far as I know, the discussions are not bitter from either party, and situation is still fluid.

Bruce Feldman seems fairly certain that he's not gonna be in Knoxville next year.

Yeah just got that alert. Said pretty much what I did. Oh well.

I'm assuming he jumped at the chance to go to a school he was a fan of and had hoped to iron the details out when he got there.

Probably.

Seems pretty dumb on his part. He was known to be going there before Fulmer came on, let alone the new coach. Seems you'd iron these things out before leaving your current job.

Hard to imagine him having a "role" as hands-on as he does under the shrimp beauxt umbrella vs. anywhere else.

Pruitt didn't know what sauce piquante was and Thomas freaked

Devastating for Tenn. Austin is a tremendous talent and a great person. Really wanted to go home. Kinda shocked Tenn messed this up

How dare they refer to gumbo filé as ground sassafras!

Left for the west coast for a higher salary, but didn't factor in the extravagant cost of living that would eat away at that salary.
Then quits a job, before having the contract details in hand in the new job?
Sounds like someone is flying by the seat of their pants Should be easily replaceable. If we have competent people choosing the replacement, that is

Sounds like Thomas messed this up. Who accepts a job, quits his previous job without having all of the duties and perks clearly defined.

How do you take a job not knowing what it is?
