McNeill's defenses at Texas Tech from 2000-2009 weren't anything impressive, but they made enough stops to give Leach's offense a chance to beat anybody in the Big 12.

Right now TTU has the offense to beat anybody but they can't get a stop to save their life. Ruffin would make them serviceable enough to allow Kliff to have similar success to what leach had at Tech before him.

Outside of 2008, he never had a defense that was remotely competent.

I know that Ruffin was at best substandard, but Kliff is so good looking that I have to agree. Bring Ruff back

Compared to what they have now Ruffin was Dick LeBeau.

Ruffin was a position coach from 2000 until September 23rd 2007. In 35 games as DC Ruffin's teams allowed more than 30 points 10 times. In the seasons since Tech has allowed over 30 points

2010 - 6 times in 13 games
2011 - 10 times in 12 games
2012 - 8 times in 13 games
2013 - 6 times in 13 games
2014 - 10 times in 12 games
2015 - 9 times in 12 games

Ruffin gave up 40+ 5 times in 35 games as DC. He gave up 50+ 3 times with one game going over 60. Oklahoma scored 65 in 2008.

This season Tech gave up 40+ in seven games. Including games of 55 63 63 and 70. If Tech could have held TCU and Oklahoma State to 51 or less they would have won those games.

Ruffin would be a major upgrade. I'm not saying he's the best available DC, but he would take the job and upgrade them from a 7-5 team to a 9-3 team annually.

This is only David Gibbs first year at Tech and he's been a fairly good DC everywhere else. I think he just needs a year or two to fully implement his system.
