Now that Oregon is off the table, and SMU sounds like they are going in a different direction, it makes sense for Sumlin.
He's got big ties to Louisiana and the region obviously. Fertile recruiting ground. A chance to take a program with good resources and turn them into a G5 power. Sumlin would see major success at ULL and he would easily get some great athletes to commit to him.
What a lot of outsiders don't realize, is that there's some very big money waiting in the wings to be unloaded into the RCAF if this hire is made. Some big donors that left when HUD mishandled the locker room incident, are willing to come back larger than before with a quality hire. Our new AD, Dr. Bryan Maggard has the full support of the University President to get the right deal done.
And I know for a fact that he was at least contacted. I'll say no more for now.
Might be the dumbest post you have ever made on a message board in your life

ULL is legitimately a sleeping giant (for mid majors). You can put them on the on the same level as almost any mid major for facilities, and if they could establish themselves as a consistent winner could outpace all the other La colleges for recruits(other than LSU). It’s not far fetched for them to get to the Houston, or Memphis level with the right guy. But it certainly hasn’t happened yet.
But to answer OP...no this is not a job Sumlin would take. ULL has to make a great hire, and then potentially start to get the next tier of coaches.

It's about taking a job that is not a dead end
SLI/USL/ULL has NEVER had a Head Football Coach leave the program for a better job. It is historically the prototype dead end job

Not even a single season, ever, approaching those levels. ULL, or anyone, could have a good team with the right coach. But, as a school, it's indistinguishable from the non-urban schools in the sunbelt and in C-USA.
Sumlin might be interested- same recruiting territory basically; lot of Aggies in Lafayette, if he left on good terms.

I'll just leave this right here. Private plane heading to Lafayette from College Station. Hmmm. I'm telling you boys. Y'all just wait and see. This plane is known to be frequently used by UL. Just sayin.

not about being desperate. It's about taking a job that is not a dead end.
Dude, that is the definition of a dead end job. Name one head coach of any sport who went on to a successful career.

Of any sport? How about Yvette Girouard from Softball. Guess who she moved on to? You're very own LSU.
Baseball? I think many would agree Tony Robichaux is having a pretty successful career.
Besides, this isn't the same Cajuns program it's been for decades. We finally have real backing in funding and a president and AD who are committed to athletics.

You have to ignore the LSU idiots that say ULL is worthless. Not worth your time.

Looks like its on its way. You going to Lafayette Intl to greet the coach?
