First, after the win on Saturday, he tell some of his players he loves Cinn and is not going anywhere. Now it comes out he will meet with ND and listen to what they have to say. Then he tell Dan Patrick on ESPN he can't say if he will be coaching Cinn in the Sugar Bowl.....If I was the athletic director at Cinn-I'd pull a Boston College on his arse and send him packing.....

Money talks

when I heard a sound bite of his interview on espn radio today they then immediately reported he was interviewing with ND but also in contract negotiations with Cinn. I think there is at least a fair chance he is using this for leverage.

And replace him with who?

Exactly. You people are ridiculous. Money talks. He may be using it for leverage or not. Doesn't matter. It's his life/job.
Most of yall would leave for a substantial pay raise too.

Odd things happen in coaching changes. Curly took the LSU job and did not coach SoMs Bowl. Jeff Bower was hired and he refused to coach the bowl. So ...the rest of the coaches were left to coach, that was when Villerea, Daye, Richards and others were GAs.How bad was that. Who got the bonus money???

If Kelly does stay at UC (don;t think he will), they better give him a huge raise. He makes at the low end of Big East coaches I believe. Can't blame him for leaving either way.

I understand its business...and it should be from the athletic director's point of view as well-if you want to go to "greener pastures"-go!!!! Don't leave us hanging!!!

How about "Cincy is a great place-I'm glad I'm here"......you don't have to make any reference to if you're staying or going....
That hasn't really worked out that well for them.

Maybe they didn't make a wise selection to replace him!!!

quote:No. They'd never get anybody if they fired people for looking. Cinci is never going to be a destination job. The best they can hope for is to get someone decent to stay a while.

So Nick Saban is a complete jack arse because he was hounded by the media twice a day about the Alabama job until he was forced to say, "I will not be the next coach at Alabama." He then proceeds to take the job and the world calls him a liar.
Brian Kelly, does not know if he will be offered the job at ND and he does not know if he will take the job at ND. He does not want to be labeled a jack arse and a liar, so he tells the truth. He said, "I can't guarantee that I will make it home in the evening, so I will not guarantee that I will coach Cincy in the bowl game."
Dan Patrick tried to set him up, so he just told the truth. Is that so wrong?

he is one of the biggest commodities in coaching...they are paying him like an average big east coach....I'm glad not everyone is as knee jerk as you are.

honestly I think there is more to it then that if he was really trying avoid contraversy he would have given this interview at all. It's not like Patrick came to a presser and harassed him Kelly did an interview with him. He is either angling hard for a raise or the nd job.

When opportunity knocks at your door, you better open the door because it might not knock again. Miles wins NC and people want to kick him out the door.Kelly would be a fool not to at least listen to what ND has to offer.Fans are fickle so a coach better take the best long term contract he can get.People call Miles a dummy but he sure has a great long term contract. Great feat for a dummy. We should all be so dumb.

Knee jerk or not....as an athletic director, its his job to worry about HIS program...not his head coach's next opportunity. If your coach starts saying shite like that-I mean to the point where he says"I'm not sure if I'll be here for the bowl game", then as athletic director, its your job to do two things.....make him a better offer to stay and get him to sign/agree asap-if he won't-you need to let him go and get someone who wants to be there before all the best candidiates are taken. Not knocking him for wanting a "better job" but get the frick out of here so I can take care of my program-good luck!!
