no, the trusty Dinardo went 3-8 and 4-7 before Saban got here.
...and went 8-4, 10-3, 8-5. 12 losses in the first 3 years after DiNardo. That's an average of 4 losses per season. So it's not like he came in and immediately turned anything around.
Alabama was 10-2 and then 6-6 the two years before Saban got there. He then went on to lose 6 games the next year. He had talent left over from Shula. If he didn't, he wouldn't have went 12-2 the next year with nothing but freshmen.

i would answer that with what exactly he will come out ahead against on two coaches who have 2 NCs each and 2 or 3 SEC titles each but alas I have to leave this thread due to all of the posi-tigers requesting admin on me. Goodnight.
He'd have a head to head advantage against them while he was at LSU. Even you can't spin that.

Well, that's a shame. You are entitled to your opinion. I just think you could be a little less antagonistic about it.
It is fun to watch though (despite my earlier please for silence).

No burying here. The point is as quirky or weird as he is. He is in the Hunt for the SEC/BCS until late Nov. We lost out in the BCS after thanksgiving, our last game. This is the dumbness of your argument Maximus. I hated our offense for 10-1/2 of the 12 games. Shook my head and kicked my dog, but we were 10-1 going into Arky with an at large up for grabs. Some teams are eliminated in week 2. Not to mention the teams that we lost to are both top 8 now, so apparently the teams we lost to aren't pushovers or chumps.

You are correct.
A new contract could clear up issues and give both sides additional benefits/options, ie, not allowing a clown to unilaterally give extensions.
2 things. What does Les get out of the new contract?
1) He won't give up his money. I wouldn't blame him either, because LSU was stupid enough to give him a one sided contract. (Thank you Skip).
2)His contract roll-overs don't allow it to be extended beyond 2014 without a new contract, so it is maxed out. That is due to a state law for state employees, which he is. The total length of the contract is limited to 7 years (2008-2014) at which point a contract extension (non-roll over) or new contract.
Based on these two things, why would LSU be willing to change his contract? They are stuck with the guaranteed money and Les isn't taking paycut.

Well stated. If Miles makes the change at OC, I believe we hav ethe oportunity to see marked improvement in offensive production next year or two. It is a whole lot easier to bring in an OC that cna get you good offensive numbers than to retool your entire staff (including HC). We are right there, we jus tneed some offensive tweeking.

It's not his opinion that sucks it's that he just throws shite on anything that is positive. He wants Les gone but even he had to try and sidestep that b/c he's got no ground to stand on.

How wonderful to hear. Now go out and get an OC. If he doesn't go get an OC, I for one will be furious.

I can only conclude it's to help both LSU and Les Miles
Without the automatic roll overs, Les is more hirable. For example, Michigan
And if Miles has bad years, LSU can find a new man easier with a lesser buyout.
Win win contract, but seem curious that it's being done now..All these rumors about Colorado and Michigan and his health.
I do know that Alleva said this was an important year for LSU Miles..(seat was very warm after last season) and he came through as far as I am concerned

Both parties has valid arguments.
Max, I dislike Miles as well, but you can't fire a guy who won 10 games. Sure we were only a penalty, lucky bounce, and a dropped TD pass away from a 7-5 season, but a win is a win.
To the others, Miles did what he was supposed to do considering the talent level and achieved 10 wins, but some of you are acting like he won a national championship. He did not do anything spectacular. He finished 3rd in the SEC west.
So no, Miles does not deserve to get fired, but if he left, it shouldn't be taken as if the world ended.
Also, I would rather have a coach who has luck and is ballsy like Miles, than most other coaches who are scared shitless of a 4th down.

with that atrocity of an offense?
This is what I don't understand about people that say he didn't do a good enough job.
Texas had the same pathetic offense and finished 5-7. IMO, I think that speaks volumes of the job he did this year.
Now, it's just time to fix the kinks.

Happens to every single team in the history of the game of football. Other than maybe the '72 Dolphins.

How so? It's Les' choice whether to stay or leave. Nothing in his contract holds him hostage. If he wants to take another job, he can take it. He'll pay a small buyout which is not even 12% of the Salary he's gotten over just the last 3 years.
His contract only holds back LSU, not Les. No one is going to look at him wrong if he goes elsewhere for a paycut.
LSU has nothing to gain by this because he's not giving up the money he has guaranteed at this moment.

Jeez - can y'all stop arguing long enough for us to find out that if Miles gets a raise and if so what does that mean for Crowton?
Does anyone actually know anything about changes to the offensive staff?

I read this thread through about page 4 and then got lost in the slap fight between Max and logic.
All I'll say is..........good for Miles. I think he deserves a new contract and I want him here for a long time, especially if we can land a top-notch OC.
Also, I think most in this thread are getting hung up on the "new contract" part. It doesn't necessarily mean better for Miles, it might just mean different stuff.
Hell, it may even mean he's going to take a pay cut so that he can get more money for assistants (ala Sean Payton and Greg Williams). What if that's the case? It's certainly plausible.
