I really don't think vt is that great of a job

Frank beamer had them over their heads for all those years

A great year for them is 9 wins
Wonder who they would've even went after

I will always support the players and the school, but we better be firing some asst coaches tomorrow.

If the OC is still there at the end of the week, I will have to check out for quite a bit.

I feel like it could still be a good program. Fuente isn't recruiting at all.

It's pathetically bad

For some reason they are not getting the same tidewater area talent that they did during the Beamer years.

Malzahn could be a good fit at Va Tech, and even better if they bring Fuentes back one more year and he doesn’t work out. Gus takes a season off on Auburn’s dime and recharges the batteries. Good time to put together some potential staff hires and see who comes calling for 2022 season. If he wants to coach in 2021, Arizona would make some sense. Great location and lower level of competition than the SEC.

Being born and raised in Memphis, I will always respect the job Fuente did there. That program is stable and successful for the first time in its history because of the job he did building it up from nothing.

However, I also remember being a little happy that he was a year too early for any consideration in 15 and had a big buyout attached in 16. I knew he wouldn’t be up to LSU standards in recruiting without going all out on his staff. It’s clear now that he would never have been interested in a job like that anyway.

Based on how he approaches recruiting and doesn’t like the limelight, Fuente needs to go back to the G5 or a small private school like Wake or Duke. He would be a lot better off at a place like that.
