Maybe this explains our dominant bowl game performances. A much less regular bowl game practice schedule due to all the pre-game festivities and public appearances causes practices to be shorter and less intense a few days before the game.

Old school mentality though. Run em like dogs, put em through hell makes them "tougher." Not always a bad thing, just gotta find the balance.

This would not look very good on Miles, BP. This would mean 5 DC's in 4 years

also makes sense why we have seemed to fade down the stretch and then come back strong in bowl games after finally given some rest

Yep. 2006 was the only year we improved as the year went on under Miles.

Probably explains why the team doesn't look conditioned halfway through a game because they were run into the ground during practice.

And even struggled with Ole Miss and Arky that year as well.

How does Pelini look bad on Miles?

Contrary to popular belief, I have heard Saban runs a relatively light practice compared to other people. He works their arse off in the offseason to keep them in shape, but their season practices are about executing gameplans and maintaing fundamentals. They keep fresh and there's not a lot of contact.

It doesn't but the turnover rate is alarming wouldn't you agree?

which is the way practice should be run IMO

Actually, despite the UGA loss to end 2005, I would say it was Miles best in improving as the year went along from the hurricanes.
2006, despite the two early losses at Aub and Fla, and being every bit as good as Fla during the year and at it's conclusion, more a case of the cream just rising to the top.
If anything, the coaching staff had no reasons for why the best and/or most talented team or team 1-A in the land, was out of the national title race just six games into the schedule. It was arch-f@cking criminal to have lost at Auburn(despite Fla doing the same) and not have met Fla in a rematch in the UGADome later that December..Miles hardheadness and playcalls on the Plains, most probably blew a national title for LSU.
1908 and 2006..LSU coulda shoulda woulda been flying 5 national title flags over TigerStadium.

You have to find an equilibrium point. You can't get your team getting soft.

Agree on ole miss, not so much Arky. Maybe the struggle there had something to do with them being a Top 5 team playing at home.

Remember how so many of his practices were in shells and shorts..unless he was PO'ed about them playing soft in a game or whining at practice..then he would "toughen 'em up".

On a week to week basis you should probably work on details and staying sharp with fundamentals. When you have a 2-week break, get a good, hard-hitting practice in. Otherwise, sprinkle a few full pad practices just to make sure everyone is still hitting.
