Morris, Golesh, Sumrall, Stein, etc as the dominos continue to fall, all but just a couple of these guys will “fail” and be fired.

We see this every year, these are all “great” hires and people act like their preferred candidate will be the next great one. None of these guys will likely win a championship, most probably won’t make the playoff, and the majority will be fired.

You hire the best guy you think you can, but the realistic expectations are your team is going to continue to be mediocre or not reach the renewed expectation.

I actually really like Golesh. I think he could have success at Auburn if they just fully let him run his program the way he wants.

The hard part about coming from a lower tier school to the SEC is that nobody really has 100% trust in your decisions, and they'll second guess you along the way. Unlike them, we don't have to worry about that.

Why you didn’t mention Kiffin?

Because he’s more of a known quantity and I think there’s a much better chance he leaves for another job than being fired for not winning within 5 years

Can Golesh handle Yellowood coming on sidelines during game and telling him how to coach.

See coach Tubs

Agreed but could also have said same thing about BK in 2022

How many head LSU football coaches this century have not been fired?

Who was the last head LSU football coach to retire as head LSU football coach?

He’s also a lot older and a coach quitting is very much the exception, not the norm. Kiffin may be gone within 5 years, but I highly, highly doubt it’s because he doesn’t win enough games. The rest of these guys, we truly have no idea

Yeah, great hire. He may never win more than 8 or so games and get fired.

Kiffin very well could be gone in 5. I just hope he gets one in that time period, and it's worth it.

Yep, Brian Kelly made it 4 years at LSU.

Was Kelly a known commodity?

He quit, coaches don’t really quit. There’s really no reason to consider that. Not that hard

Serious question because I’m genuinely curious, how many times have you ever watched a South Florida game?

This is the problem at Auburn and Texas

Both schools notorious for meddling by admin and boosters

Most coaches either get fired or leave. I’d say that how it is at almost every school. You’d be hard pressed to name coaches that have retired recently aside from Saban. Maybe back in the day.

But if the new GM they hired doesn't answer to him and instead answers to the AD will he actually be able to coach how he wants?

Seems like a recipe for disaster.

If Auburn brass stays out of his way, and the fans give him time, I can see Golesh getting to 9 wins real quick (he still has Bama and UGA to play yearly). Auburn has a legit duel threat in Knight, they were 30 yards away from a 1000 yard rusher who will be back next year, and he can retain Durkin as DC. Also Cam Coleman (don't mention the fumble, this dude is a monster), and all the other receivers can return if they want to.

Yeah, but we're talking more likely to happen.

It reminds me of Les Miles. All Les Miles had to do was swallow his pride and get an elite college OC that could coach QBs. We'd have likely won another championship before 2019. Kelly decided that he wouldn't even care about meeting with his coaches on a daily basis, and making sure he was locked in with his players. He decided that he wouldn't care about recruiting the best by personally interacting with the recruits. He thought he would sit bafk and let the staff do everything. He's a terrible game day coach too.

Kiffin is still hungry. Kiffin built 2 programs up since the last time Kelly built one. Kelly thought he could coast. Kiffin won't do that. He wants to taste that gold. Did you see how damn crazy he was wanting to coach the playoffs at Ole Miss, and run LSU?
